The fact a guy was seldom showing up in video games period added to the mystique. The fact he does one media interview every few years also adds to it. So extremely elusive post retirement when the other guys are constantly seen and heard from. Michael Rubin is the only guy who has a shot at throwing everything and the kitchen sink at Jordan to get him to sign in products again, but if he fails to do so we can guarantee Jordan will never sign again. But yeah his stuff will dip in a year but we aren't seeing Jordan autos sell for mid 4-figures again I don't think. |

Thanks – I’ve thought about it, but it’s a thick card, and TPG's often give notoriously bad grades on those, even though I believe mine would score well. I’m not taking the risk of leaving it in their hands.
Inside a premium magnetic case, locked away in a safe, it will remain. |

Jordan auto cards are definitely out of reach now, but something like this can still be had for as low as $3500 to $4k thats also made and authenticated by Upper Deck if collectors really want a Jordan auto in their collection. For Now!!!

Yeah... Jordan autos are very expensive.
I once made the mistake of grabbing a couple of them in eBay auctions from the same seller, who had an unknown COA listed with them, but later PSA/DNA turned them down as being questionable in authenticity. I thought I was getting a deal with the auctions, having won them, but I lost the money on these fakes. There is no way around it. If you want an authentic Jordan auto... you have to be prepared to spend. |

And while Gretzky autos are expensive relative to the size of the hockey market they are a fraction of the price of a certified Jordan. I would never take that kind of chance on anything but a certified pack pulled UD Jordan.

Agree that I will only even consider Gretzky, MJ, or Tiger autos if they're UDA.
The sad thing is people have started faking the UDA stuff. This is why we can't have nice things.

What about ones like these
![]() Buyback autos? I've seen quite a few faked buyback autos, is there a way to hash out which ones are legit or are they just straight up not as safe as other pack pulled autos? |

I don’t like buybacks personally. Especially on a card that was never designed for an auto in the first place. I’d rather have a normal pack auto with the COA on the back.

Unfortunately the pack pulled auto with "You have received a card personally autographed by Michael Jordan" on the back of it is the primary Bulls auto people want... peace of mind and it feels good to have something that was 1:5,000 packs. |

Buy back autos are in the same category as IP autos for me. So in other words, not very desirable if not obtained in person. |

I wouldn’t mind one in a PSA slab. That’s a weird card though. MJ on a Wizard card in a Bulls uniform 🫣 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Do you guys prefer PSA encapsulated on-card auto that was initially obtained raw (IP, or TTM, or purchased) more or less than PSA encapsulated upper deck coa sticker auto that was initially pack-pulled raw?
Which one do you see as more valuable? |

MJ would be the charter member, along with Ruth, Gretzky, and Brady... imo. |

You’re only gonna get an MJ signed rookie IP obviously, as well as a couple other MJ cards That said, he didn’t sign ttm and rarely signed in general. Outside of UD, he only signed for his Flight School camp, sometimes after golf tourneys and in super rare occasions, like last year when he inked those 86 Fleer for some friend/ high roller I love IP autos but it’s asmaller subset of the hobby that collects/is into them. To that collector base, they do go for good money As far as more valuable you’re comparing two different buckets of MJ cards I’m out the loop on pack-pulled but has any sold for over $2.7 million? That’s what a signed rc of his did |

Agreed. Kobe fans are crazy and there are a lot of them. And they're about 10 years behind MJ fans in terms of having deep pockets, although I'm sure there's a lot of crossover between MJ/Kobe/Bron fans. And don't forget there are a lot of rich Kobe fans in China.

Magic and Larry have horridly low prices for how they revolutionized the league and the amount of rings they each won. Greats but not the best. |

Prices have risen slowly since the last I checked a couple years ago.

Man, I really do wish that Kobe auto prices will really drop, so that I can acquire just a few more. The primary supply chain (card companies, paid signings, etc.) has been cut, so what's out there is not infinite.
And same wish for MJ auto's as well lol, if not trading cards, then maybe small size non-trading card items, like 8x10's. Still expensive, but more relatively affordable when compared with cards.

Death buffer does not work as magically as you think it does. Kindly explain to me why Magic Johnson has had low prices despite doing a very similar amount for the game that Kobe did. Last edited by mwf94; 01-04-2026 at 09:42 AM. |

Ive said this before and ill say it again. The biggest difference between Kobe and Magic in this hobby is that Kobe has a crazy collectors market overseas compared to Magic Johnson, epecially in China and the Philippines that tremendously affect the value of their cards. For whatever reason there are folks in this sub that either just want to be blatantly ignorant of this fact, or don't want to believe it. I've sold so many high end Kobe cards since the Pandemic and 80% of them are buyers from China. And before some of you guys are also ignorant of this fact, I can tell you that there are also lots and lots of folks in China with deep pockets, no less than here in the U.S. Also the reason why people in Asia care wayyyyy more about Kobe vs Magic is because Kobe played during the hey-days of NBA popularity in Asia, which is late 90s to the 2000s. Barely anyone in Asia got to watch the NBA in the 80s thus Magic got a lot less exposure there. It's not always about career achievements when it comes to value in this hobby otherwise Tim Duncan would be one of the most expensive hobby value-wise.
