Affordability of Michael Jordan autos?
As someone who is not very well versed in basketball as football and baseball aren’t main sports. I was surprised how expensive Michael Jordan autos are.
Do you feel like they have gotten out of reach for the average collector? Even college and Wizards autos Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Yes. The GOAT and he doesn’t sign much, especially compared to nearly all other great athletes of his era.
Only reason they’d ever be cheaper than they are today is if MJ is involved in a career destroying scandal |
Only asking the question because I saw the thread - how much would a 1986 Jordan signed SI cover go for? Cover only, in pretty decent condition. I need to have it authenticated, but given the source I am nearly 100% sure it's legit. Thanks in advance for the experts helping out! :D

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don’t know the Bambino market but as far as Gretzky goes… -Many Americans don’t care about hockey, and he’s offended many of his own countrymen of late for his political leanings -The Great One continues to sign with much more frequency than MJ -The Great One is no longer the greatest goal scorer in history |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have some guesses on brady One, he still signs (a lot) Two, he didn't retire all that long ago. He hasn't even been inducted into the HOF yet. Compared to MJ who retired over twenty years ago, Brady's stuff hasn't had any chance to appreciate. It'll take time for people to come back around to his stuff as the current big three (Lamar, Allen, Mahomes) head into the latter halves of their careers and his greatness is put back into perspective. |

Wonder how the hall of fame induction will effect his cards Also in terms of hobby popularity. Basketball is a much bigger market than football Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I love Brady but he’s not at the level of popularity that MJ is Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I only paid $53 for this about 11 years ago
Won it in a razz room with one spot, but still. Fun fact: I was "banned" from the room after I refused to "re-run" it so others could get a chance to win it. :)! |

Do you feel like they have gotten out of reach for the average collector? Even college and Wizards autos
Depends on where the economy is honestly. When things are good the average guy can splurge a couple thousands on something nice, and only a couple thousand relegates them to the early 2010's Upper Deck UNC autos. About a dozen Jordan autos have been through my hands in the last year and yes they are absolutely out of reach for the average collector because most collectors can't swing $10k+ for a single card. Even sticker autos are cracking the 5 figures in this market which is ridiculous. It goes beyond just collectors, most vendors don't have them because they don't wish to pay up for anything since it is all about avoiding risk. The collectors and vendors who hold Jordan autos all have one thing in common; they aren't afraid to pay strong. If I have a really cool special card, why on Earth would I give it to some meat head clinging to the lowest comp and only offering 85 cents on the dollar for it? Bulls > Wizards >>> UNC |

I would think so right? Generally rule of thumb is collect goats. Same with pokemon or comics. Collect charizard or Spider-Man. In sports it’s MJ, Ruth, Ohtani, Gretzky, LeBron, Brady and Mahomes. Messi and Ronaldo too Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
He’s 62, and eventually will succumb to the curse. Once that happens good luck!

You forgot Tiger Woods. His cards/autos/whatever, go for as much as, if not in some cases, more than MJ or anyone you listed these days. Also might want to add Aaron Judge to the list too. His cards are up there with Ohtani's. And New York Yankees fans have deep, deep, deep pockets |

That is correct which is why the majority of my sports collection is Jordan autos (I only hold a dozen cards at a time). Michael Jordan has cracked past the awesome athlete barrier, he is an essential part of Americana like Babe Ruth. Lebron and Kobe over time will drop but Jordan will stay strong. |

I agree 100%, eventually most people will understand and just want the #1 guy, the best of the best. Looking at the Kobe market right now, I am amazed how expensive his autos are now and he has tons more autos than Jordan in the market. |
whats the floor price on an oncard MJ auto in a bulls jersey?
whats the floor price on an oncard MJ auto in a bulls jersey?
I think at least 8-10k. UNC looks to be 4-5k Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
whats the floor price on an oncard MJ auto in a bulls jersey?
Genuine on-card bulls jersey floor is about $10k-$12k and that's only if you know a guy for private sale or an auction goes up at a bad time. Sticker autos are selling for $10k-$13k on public market and the bottom on-card bulls autos are going for a couple thousand above that (assuming ink stroke is passable). The 4 figures era for under-the-radar Bulls autos ended about 8 months ago, but the market could very well dip again given we are back to COVID prices now. |

It's pretty wild how expensive his stuff is relative to his status to other players. Just think about some of these: Under $100: -Montana -Rice -Magic -Bird -Kareem I know these guys sign a lot, but the discrepancy is crazy considering how legendary they are. Magic/Bird/Kareem are top 10 maybe top 5 in some cases. Montana is considered a top 3 QB. Rice is easily the GOAT WR. Maybe a top 5 NFL GOAT if you factor in the distance between him and the #2 WR. |
