Haha, don't put it up for auction yet, I'm not ready . Very nice card.

The TLDR answer is I won it on Goldin.

If you want to read the theatric response:

I’ve been a Sho collector since his season 2017 but did not have the resources to buy high-end cards. I was able to pickup a few BCA/ROAs in 2018, but nothing extravagant. Even through a bad 2020 season, I kept buying and grading. reaching over 1,000 PSA 10 slabs. When the 2021 breakout happened, I unloaded from lowest to highest value and consolidated upward into higher value cards. I repeated this process 3-4 times through 2024. Fast forward to Feb-25, I saw the listing for the HMT32 super from Josh Luber (startup guy/influencer) and consigned by Goldin. With the help of a couple members in this thread, we modeled the predicted hammer price and I decided to go for it on the condition of raising ~70% of the cash up front. For those that paid attention, they saw a SHARP increase in my listings in Feb. These were the BO members that I had to explain that I wasn’t leaving Sho .

Fast forwarding, the auction ended at the low-end of our calculation. One thing I want to stress is that I’m not a dude that effortlessly pulls money out of his pocket to buy big-ass cards. It has been a product of consolidation. If you keep at it, good things can happen.

Key cards consolidated (sold): BCA Pitching PSA 10, Heritage ROA PSA 10 (x2), HMT32 Red /25 PSA 10 (x2), Transcendent TCASO PSA 10, HMT32 1/1 plate, Bowman #49 Blue /150 PSA 10, US285 Blue /50 PSA 10, various #150 parallels.

Sounds like Debuts should be more appreciated given what they stand for and using an real photo. Then again I think Stadium Club stuff should be praised more and the sports card market is in decline so my hamster probably fell off the wheel.

When you talked about holding out for some big pickups this offseason, I doubt you were expecting this. Incredible! Congrats again

I love it when I can get a nice discount on a /10 needed for a rainbow because it has a little white showing on the corner. Not everything has to be a 10!

Incredible journey, thanks for sharing Scott.
BTW, this Ohtani superfractor was originally acquired by Josh Luber in a $90k trade, at the 2021 Dallas Card Show.
He shared his story with ESPN:

Yeah, I know the 90K was just trade value, but our expected range was 120 to 160K based on what other parallels sold for (mainly the red /25) and the 90K TV from 3+ years ago.

Thank you very much for that. I enjoy the stories behind cards like this almost as much as the cards themselves. I wish I had the conviction you have had with Shohei. My Shohei collection is small, and given current prices, it will certainly stay that way!

Yeah, a part of me was expecting to be blown away by 100K. I do think the other big cards running alongside it may have taken some attention off. Happy either way.

Haha, I think we said the same thing last time you bought something from me. We'll get it together one day . And no PSA 10 ROAs left available, sorry. I trimmed the reserve on those.

The link that Alex dropped interviews Josh Luber about how he acquired the super in 2021 by trading 90K worth of cards+cash.
