They shipped via FedEx Express Saver. Upon inspection of the tracking info I noticed it says "Deliver weekday" under "special handling section". This means instead of getting here on Saturday it will arrive Monday on which I'll be out of town. Anyone had any luck with picking up a package at fedex during the weekend? Really wish they would have shipped via USPS...

You should be able to manage your delivery and have it held at a local FedEx facility. I do that with all my PSA packages, and have picked up a few on Saturday.

Can I do that on the tracking page or do I need a certain type of account with FedEx to do so? Also, do I need to wait untill my package arrives at a nearby sorting location or can I put in the request once fedex is in possession of the package?

You can do that on the tracking page, under "Take Control of My Package", as soon as FedEx has possession of the package. You don't need any special account.
