I was going to go the opposite way of this. I see half off Saturday's as being less full than usual as people are concerned about catching something which is good for people like us.

I feel bad for all the people that do thrift flipping as a primary source of income, stay safe out there.

Around here too many would take your viewpoint.

Goodwill around here gets a lot of donations when students leave for the semester. Students were told not to come back from Spring Break and given limited time to get stuff out. May and June were two of the bigger months of sales it will not be this year.

I don’t like half off saturdays because it’s just leftover stuff from the week and is always picked clean where I am.

I’m just really bummed the whole March-June season is screwed. That’s the best pickin time of the year and I often hold stuff till November to list.

Appreciate it! It’s one of my main sources of income, I do like 6 things. I’m just grateful my better half has a stable job in these times and that she can work safely from home.

I work at the airport and one of my co-workers got a pic of a lady trying to come through security today in a hazmat suit. TSA made her remove before going through the metal detectors.

Still lots of money out there to be made. I bought several 1990s basketball Jerseys last week from one of my contacts. All but the one I did not list have sold I have had 2 of my top 10 sales days of the year so far in the past week.

Yeah I’d say eBay is hopping for sure. The only problem is the sourcing for someone like myself who didn’t have a massive death pile, any individual sources such as people.

That’s not a complaint by any means, I’m pounding the streets on Craigslist, only thing that sucks is having to factor in driving as a lot of stuff is 1hr or more away.

Another thing I’ve noticed is it seems Craigslist prices seem to be higher for everything that is selling well on eBay. Guy that had a Nintendo switch I inquired about and he said he’d go a little less than eBay because of no shipping or fees. I’m all set with that.

It’s tougher sourcing for sure. Still no complaints, just wish I was taking better advantage of this opportunity.

So if some Goodwill/thrift stores are accepting donations but not open, what are they doing with all the stuff? Not every store lists online. Just stocking up real good for when they do open up I guess?

I think they also realize since a lot of people are home now they're taking this as an opportunity to do cleaning that they may not have had time to do before

It's definitely been some weird times lately....

Per the recommendation of some in this thread, I ended / relisted about 2/3 of all my items about a week ago.

As predicted, I had a couple huge days selling stuff that had been listed for a long time. By the tidal wave of sales lasted about 48 hours. After that, it's been absolutely crickets. Almost nothing. I wish I could figure out their algorithms but I really don't feel like ending and relisting stuff on a weekly basis. Especially since I don't have an eBay store.

And I've been lucky enough o run into my first scammer. Sold a 1904 bible in poor condition that was described as such in detail. Buyer claimed one page of Revelations was missing. I just issued a refund. It's not worth my time.

Another item. A North Face Jacket. Had a bunch of questions about it. One person bought it and got cold feet. I cancelled and relisted. Someone else bought it but has yet to pay. It's been 5 days with two reminders. How long should I wait for payment?

I would have opened an unpaid item case after 4 days and no responses or communication.

I open unpaid item claims after 2 days. I don't send emails or anything asking for payment I just file if I have heard nothing..

Sometimes you get items like that just never seem to get paid for. Had a cap a few weeks ago sold it 5 times before the buyer ever paid for it.

Try listing new items no need in relisting everything most recommend 5 to 8 items a day.

I remember the story about the cap of yours. That was in the back of my head.

I'll have to take a look around and see what new items I can find. It's been tough with no garage sales and no Goodwill...

I am still dealing with death piles and have made a few deals with some of my contacts in the area.

I don’t know if you live in a rural or populated area- but I was gonna post about this to this thread anyways.

Most of you source from friends and family also. And if you’re not- you should be, all of my friends and family at least know ~of what I do. And often they will drop off or text me that they have a bunch of stuff they were gonna donate to goodwill. If you’re not utilizing your personal network for this business you really should start.

But back to an idea I had this morning that I will probably go through with, but I know most people who live in my building- at least on a friendly neighborhood basis. I also know most people have been quarantined here the whole time and everyone in the world has been cleaning their houses since it coincides with “spring cleaning” season anyway. But all these people have nowhere to donate right now so it’s taking up garages, hallways, living rooms, and kitchen tables.

I thought it wouldn’t hurt to print up the 40 or so pages to tape to everyone’s door. I’d give a brief explanation of who I am and which apartment is mine and what my profession is. Kindly accepting any donations, free up the space of that junk you just cleaned out yadda yadda. Maybe even offering to pay a small amount for Lysol cleaned items. It fills me with anxiety but I literally only have 13 non-card items left to list on eBay, I’ve been sucked dry of my stock. I need product. Thoughts, am I crazy?

Nah not crazy as I said I have made a couple of trips to one of my contacts house over the past couple of weeks buying and trading. I needed some impact items so I called him up.

Was odd today this is the weekend of the Spring Hiway 80 Garage sale. Sucks.

Picked up 20 pounds of Legos today for $40. They only had it listed for 15 minutes.

Jesus what a haul! Even if it’s “garbage” bottom of the bin legos and there’s very little plates or blocks, you can still get about 6 bucks a pound. Cheap bulk legos saved my business 5/6 years ago.

I’ve always heard about Legos. I have never once seen them anywhere. Garage sales, goodwill, estate sales, thrift stores, nothing.

I picked up a bitch of Star Wars LEGO sets, all disassembled for $175. Already sold one to a friend for $50. Not. Typical worth my time investment, but I’m doing it with my son who loves Star Wars legos and it is making some money.

Legos really all depend on how much time you want to put in. There are sellers who only bulk sale them then others go brick by brick. I try to limit it to figs, base plates and special pieces.

Most Goodwills, at least around me, won't even let Legos hit the sales floor anymore. They go straight to Shopgoodwill.com.

The Goodwills around me are now pricing by brand as well and are doing away with the glass case and if it was meant to be in the glass case, they automatically send it to their online shop.

No weekend sales as of Friday night. Worst weekend in the past couple weeks. Typically when this happens the next weekend is great.

Anyone else slower than normal compared to the past couple weekends?

I had a banner day on Friday. Then nothing since. Usually, weekends are awesome.
