Default Don't Kill The Messenger: Rumor about a BO Member At The National

I assure you that I am not trying to troll, cause any problems, make up fake stories etc etc. I want to approach this as adult like as possible.

I have heard from a very credible source (I've always wanted to say that) that a prominent Blowout member was seen/admitted to adding an inscription to a prospect auto then getting it slabbed. I don't want to share the name quite yet because it can ruin someones reputation if it isnt true (I know there will be a ton of angry witch hunters saying WHO IS IT?!?! WHAT CARD IS IT?!?!!). I ask that if anyone else has heard this or can confirm, please PM me before we air out who it was.

I do not know what card it is, I was just told that it's that of a prospect.

EDIT: I have confirmed which card it is and it's on ebay. I will await to hear from someone else if they heard the same thing.

EDIT 2: The card may not have been slabbed at the National after all, but the person who told me says that the seller admitted to inscribing the card. There are no other cards with an inscription like it.

EDIT 3:

2013 Bowman Chrome Oswaldo Arcia Ref Refractor Auto 500 Social Media | eBay

from BO Member mikecancelliere

Edit 4:

Compare handwriting

He clearly didnt inscribe it.

Edit 5:

My "source" just gave me permission to post his interaction with the seller.

After telling him he did the inscription the following interaction took place:

Source: "Why are you telling me this?"
Mike: "What are you going to do about it?" and then laughed.

My source chooses to stay out of this. If you guys want to choose a valued, trusted member, I can give him my source, he can contact him for confirmation as long as he doesn't tell everyone who it is.

Here is his posting to me...

I was at nationals and Mike told me he inscribed it himself. When i asked why he was telling me that, his response was 'what are you going to do about it'

I also told the source to send me more information.
Where exactly
When
Any other specifics and of there were any others around.

Lastly I told him....
I feel the thread will be deleted eventually if you do not come forward and tell everyone specifics about this.

Not saying now but maybe later tonight.

As for now...
Can you give me things you remember. I will not disclose in the thread but would like to know.

What day?
Where exactly it was told to you (His table etc)
Do you remember the shirt he was wearing (maybe it can be photo matched)
Had you met him before?
Was anyone else around that may have heard it?

Personally if someone had told me he altered a card I would come forward becuase I have no tolerance for scumbags and have thick skin.

So ball is in the court of the source now.

Believe what you will but if this did happen and from recent things I/we have seen here on Blowout it would not shock me.

It would also not shock me that if Mike did do this and came clean he would still be an active member of this board because he seems to have a lot of people that "have his back"

That's no bueno. Interesting that if this is true, the inscription is "that good" where you cannot tell it was added.

...how many mainstream prospect cards have optional inscriptions? Chrome don't; Sterling cards don't; Platinum cards don't.... Elite used to, but not any more... inscriptions are rare.

It looks like he will provide details once he can confirm with a second source. Like any good investigative journalist would do.

Card/member added to OP. Again, just the messenger here. I could be wrong, but after doing research (I dont know much about baseball cards), the social media cards are /10 and the fact my guy says he admitted to it makes me believe its true.

If true it doesn't surprise me. It seems we have more and more people who will do something that is sketchy or worse for the cost of a pizza. And then another money grubbing whore will buy it and sell it as a 1/1 because the "experts" at a grading company slabbed it so it has to be real. Dogs and fleas people.

Hold on now everyone ... before Mike is sent for execution / give him a chance to come on this thread and comment on what has been said.

Mike ...

Only buy inscriptions if the back of the card says "This is an official inscription card", and only if that sentence is not written in marker

Marker color doesn't look the same. How did Beckett's ace graders not see that?

Maybe they were looking forward to their banana break as they seem to employ feces throwing simians.

Was thinking the same thing, the inscription is definitely darker.

Anyone else find it weird that this card is pictured this way?

Mike has a nice scanner, and all of his other auctions have scans. Maybe it is to disguise the color difference? This has been running for five days already and was slabbed 7/23. So it's not like it's an "I'm at the National and pulled and slabbed and listed this thing from my phone just now" situation.

If anyone believes that (and sadly they will) is a social media refractor auto, they deserve to lose their money. Crappy thing for the seller to do.

I don't do ebay, but does someone at this point tell them this is a bogus card so people don't bid on it? And what are the ramifications for trying to sell forged items on ebay?
