Everyone is trying to find the next MIKE TROUT.. some say maybe RONALD ACUNA.. at least price wise Acuna card values have gone way high. For many already priced out..
So which of these young players has the best chance to be the next ACUNA? At least hobby potential wise.. Easier to catch an Acuna than a TROUT *if your guy isnt listed its because A) already to expensive WANDER FRANCO B) too old LUIS ROBERT 22 years old C) already hated by the hobby KEVIN MAITAN D) doesnt have cards JASSON DOMINGUEZ If not listed, plz name who (21 and under) Last edited by brios8; 04-06-2020 at 09:31 PM. |

It’s Robert from the ChiSox. I don’t care that he is 22.

There isn’t a great comp guy that has a statistical track record to back it up. Your biggest contenders all have some weakness as a prospect that would keep them from profiling as an Acuna type talent.
Julio Rodriguez- no speed, closer comp to Soto Kristian Robinson- has the power and speed but doesn’t have the bat to ball skills. If I was feeling like taking a shot he would probably be my guy. Jered Kelenic- Feels more like a 20/20 than a 30/30 type of player. Doesn’t have the loud tools of the other. Marco Luciano- Probably the most complete for a comp as his tools are super loud and he has at a low level shown the ability to hit for avg and power as well as chip in steals. Jasson Dominguez- Who the hell really knows, no game experience. Noelvi Marte- it’s only half a season but the profile looks similar to Ronny, probably a step behind Luciano. So there are your short list of similar upside plays, will any of them reach Acuna’s level at such a young age...probably not. I’d put my flag on Robinson or Luciano at this point if I was looking at premiere athletes with amazing tools. If you want to look deeper go read up on: Erik Pena Alexander Canario I would not endorse either as having that much upside, but they are both intriguing players who could be in that top 20 prospect space next year (if we have baseball) Last edited by Imnottheonly; 04-06-2020 at 05:17 PM. |

Ugh with these topics lol
To answer your question and looking at the names given, a ROY campaign has to be put forth before the better debate starts. And where were you when everybody says Juan Soto will be the best?

Bobby Witt!
Hopefully someone starts a next Soto thread too. We can't let him fall behind.

did 23/20 across 3 levels in 440 at bats. Think he has as good a shoot as anyone not named Robert to be at least a 30/30 player. Robert went from no homers to being a monster. Trout didn’t hit over 10 homers in the minors but his speed and contact were loud. No one really knows on these things. |

Kinda risky money betting on the SF Giants to develop a position player to be ROY in Luciano

Acuna is definitely not the closest to Trout. Trout is a universe ahead of Acuna. It's a crime to compare the two as hitters...
Acuna's OPS first two seasons, with his home field being a hitter's park: 2018: .918(14th in MLB) 2019: .882(46th in MLB) Trout's OPS first two seasons, with his home field being a pitcher's park: 2012: .963(6th in MLB) 2013: .989(3rd in MLB) To put it in perspective, the difference between Trout and Acuna's 2nd season in OPS is bigger than the difference between Acuna and Teoscar Hernandez in 2019 It's as much of a crime to compare them all around as well: In his first two seasons Acuna had 9.3 WAR in 1202 ABs and Trout had 20.3 WAR in 1345 Last edited by BBases31; 04-06-2020 at 05:55 PM. |
