Not bad but it was probably a old label. I haven’t see the card. PSA has done away with qualifiers for the most part. A PSA 7 presents so much better without the qualifier.

Old label. Great looking card aside from the taller top border.

The PSA 8 was also old label. Somewhat weak corners, edges and centering for a PSA 8.

Perfect centering by Stars standards is 50/50 side to side but top to bottom the top is supposed to be thick and no border on the bottom of the card very strange guidelines. Doesn’t look right to the eye but that’s what they intended at production.

Maybe so, but that is the reason the PSA 9 got the OC qualifier.

I actually prefer the larger top border if the bottom border is the same. The card is several mm’s bigger than other cards.

How much is a 1984 star sealed all star bag worth?

Is Psa grading all star cards now or just Jordan's?

Depends on the condition of the 101 in the bag. Thankfully it’s on top and you can appraise then. The problem is they slid around and the corners and edges got damaged. All 84-85 Star cards they’re grading right now will open up later years down the road.

PSA 8 101 just sold for 116k with Goldin. So yeah I figured it would bring close to 100k. Good news for the 57s though if you’re in the market for one it’s going to get cheaper to acquire one.

A BGS 8.5 (pop 251) sold for 36K with BP in the same auction. Looks like the owners of Star 101 in BGS slabs will not see much appreciation until they take the risk of crossing theirs to PSA. Thanks to the recent PSA 8 sales in six figures, the crossover fees will be significant even if it does not meet a minimum grade. Until then, there will be plenty of Star 101 in BGS slabs and PSA 6 -7 available for sale on ebay since they will be considered less desirable compared to PSA 8 and above. Any card with print run of more than 100 will be tough to manipulate in the current market with limited inflow of new money. The current PSA 8 pop is 4 and once it hits more than 10, it will be interesting to see if the influencers will still scoop them up for six figures. As the PSA pop increases, it will become tough to manipulate the prices. I would not be surprised to see a thread next year on drop in the Star 101 prices, similar to many other pump and dump threads.

Current State of the PSA Pop Jordan 101's - figure it'll be good to get a historical timestamp for folks to reference here on the forums in the future.

There's like 20 graded 1984 Star Jordans on Ebay right now. That's pretty crazy, people who had these for years probably cashing out right now.

Look closer - a good majority of those cards are fraudulent listings associated to a hacked account southweststeam1. There’s about 20 1951 Mantles of for sale as well under same account - along with a number of other highly desirable and rare cards.

True, gotta consider the seller: when a listing has a picture that says, in effect, " don't bid on this item, instead go to some website to purchase it" you know its a hacked account. These are popping up too often on eBay.

Some great listings from Probstein with Star cards. Love him, hate him, he moves nice product.

Another $24K sale for a BGS 8 101 by Probstein last night.

For all the hype surrounding this card, it seems not a huge increase in price outside the PSA examples.

Nobody tells me what is hot, that's it son. I make a distinction based on my two eyes if a card is hot

low subgrades, obvious corner-wear, bad centering, etc.?

Yes if you go to that listing and look at the up close zoom of the photos there is NO WAY PSA is giving that an 8, if someone thought they'd buy it crack it out and send to PSA for a cash grab. That's why it went "cheap"...

Can someone explain to me where / if the 5x7 Supers fit into all this? I have an Olajuwon and a Barkley, with the former graded by BGS. I believe this was both their rookies years?

Sure, those are low print run rookie year cards. Not considered RC's or XRC's but they are awesome products printed before the second year base card set.

They never got the hobby love they deserved, but certain 5x7s are selling at strong prices right now. There's a half dozen or so that get over $500 graded 8.5 or higher. The Jordans are in the thousands.

The BGS 8 101 in Goldin went for $24K also a few days ago.

Maybe that is just what they sell for now, even with all the pumping going on.

You guys have short term memories. BGS 8.5 101s could be had pre 2020 for $7500ish. The Last Dance boom and 2021 bubble pushed these to the stratosphere, several sold north of $60K. I owned 2 and sold in January 21 for $92K total.; Should have kept the better of the 2 but there is no looking back now. $25-30K are strong sales for these. Waiting to see if a 9 will pop. My personal opinion is 1 at best. PSA 8.5 may be the ceiling for these. I don’t think PSA will treat the centering as anything other than average. The best centered 101s are not centered. Pretty simple.

What’s with the seller posting saying to email to purchase? They listed multiples and of course the listing is pulled. Perhaps hijacked accounts?

Yeah, and that's the thing with these cards. The BGS grade means next to nothing mainly due to the fact that many of the grades they gave out were either over/underinflated based on the centering grade. And since they were so inconsistent with the centering grade, there are BGS 7's that could be PSA 8's and BGS 8's that might be PSA 6's. Hell, go look at that PSA 4 that was just listed. Looks better than most BGS 8's I've seen!
