There's over 3k psa 10 of the bc rookie. It's not a rare card at all. The auto version is since I believe that was a redemption

Bowman Chrome has been embraced as THE rookie cards and that is why it took off. There are much better options that are shorter printed and less talked about. Many of you have them in your collection. Some I have or had have much lower pop count. Any Shohei RC is a great RC.

Looking for some insight. First time viewing this thread, but looking to get into an Ohtani rookie. What are the thoughts on the chrome update refractor /250 RD? I know it’s not technically the true flagship, but to me it’s the only flagship product (that’s not an so or ssp) showing him hitting.

Hitters always get more hobby love than pitchers, so does the group feeli this RD will continue to have legs in the future?

Are you only looking at flagship?

I personally love the Rookie Update. But choosing between the two can be difficult.

I personally went with the Update RD Black and the Chrome Update Pitching Refractor /250, but honestly I find myself wishing I had switched those around and picked up the Chrome Update RD Refractor and the Update Pitching Black.

I won't be changing now because of the market, but if you have an opportunity to snag a chrome update RD Refractor for a decent price, I wouldn't hesitate.

I have stacks of his rookie cards, particularly update. 2018 was the year I got back into collecting (good choice) and I accumulated hundreds of sho-time rookies from various products.

I’ve never graded a card in my life but figure it’s worth a shot to submit a bunch of the RDs I have, at a minimum

This is exactly where I was. Ohtani's market has gotten to the point where pretty much any 2018 card of his is worth getting graded, if it's base than it should be mint or better. My first PSA sub for 2023 was 120 or so various Ohtani base rookies I had from opening product in 2018.

On top of all of this. His base Topps Fire rookie goes for 40 bucks. These go for 70-120. Full disclosure I have 5 or 6 of these. They're the top 5 of this, bottom 2 are Japanese cards:

I know Ohtani is doing amazing.
I have an Ohtani Auto /25 (2022)...have offers for $1600 on it.
Is it a hold or sell? Is this something that can go up much more in value or are his current prices kind of the highest they can go?

No grade, PSA 10 though did 2K on ebay.

I'd bet $1550 after PayPal fees (private sale not ebay)

I'm more of a collector, I do want an Ohtani Auto for my PC (especially if I get rid of this one), it's just I've had people say that value can increase immensely after this season.
The question is do non rookie/2nd year autos really increase thattt much? If it may only increase by $100-$200 depending if he switches to a different team, not sure I'd really be against selling now

its tough to say. the baller brand is crap, but an Ohtani Auto is an Otani Auto at the end of the day.

i would say slab it and hold, i cant see you losing
