I'd be surprised if any weren't. That doesn't mean that they're fully liquidating all their Ohtani cards either.

I'm sure many have already sold off some big cards to lower, or completely cover, overall buy-in costs for all their Ohtani cards. For those who've actually made money and kept some cards, I'm sure they're continuing to improve their PC (Ohtani or not) as well as enjoy life more too.

We've already seen this happen in the basketball world when cards initially peaked during the pandemic, many big-time MJ/LeBron/Kobe/Curry/90s collectors moved big cards during that time.

I think its all about timing and opportunity. I see Ohtani's cards only rising much more but everything has its price...so if you can sell high and then get back in good on other cards then that's a sweet move to make.

I bought a lot of 2024 Ohtani low #'d cards over the past two years and started selling them because it's hard to pass up on the profit and use it to get better cards, like Ohtani autos. I have way less Ohtani cards than I did in September/October, but I definitely feel like my collection has much more quality now.

It'd be foolish not to profit from Ohtani's hot market and use it to build a better collection and/or better life.

Maybe some parallels here with Ohtani and Pokémon cards:

I have like 600 2018 Ohtani cards...mainly low end and base. I am holding for the long run. I just was curious about what others on here are thinking and doing.

I'm not sure what you're asking here, all I see in the bolded spot is a strange blur where words should be.

I'm still waiting for you to buy back those dy-nasties, Mr. Binder man

I have an involuntary physical reaction to buy more cards after I sell. I unexpectedly ended up selling up a lot of "fun" cards that I bought/graded out of novelty but are somehow now $3-500 each. Turning trivial purchases into 1-2 monsters is a Voltron-like experience i'd recommend to anyone

Somewhere on this journey I just flat out got cheap.

It's weird. Real weird.

You found joy in spending your money on something other than cards. That's the ultimate endgame, enlightened one.

I sold a couple bigger PC cards in 2025 (2018 autos) to lock in some huge profits and treat myself to some real life stuff (family vacations, new car, etc.).

Both were Pajama RC autos so it was a little easier to part ways with them knowing I have some Topps RC autos of Shohei remaining but still bittersweet as they were some of the first autos of his I picked up back around 2019-2020.

Earlier in the year though I had traded some slabs for a different 2018 auto and bought a 2023 auto so ended the year with the same number of Shohei autos thankfully.

Still HODLing plenty of Ohtanis here

I wouldn't say "foolish" because to each their own, but yeah at this point we aren't talking about "nice steak dinner" money, we're talking about "down payment on a new house" money, so I get it if people are cashing in. I've definitely been doing so where it makes sense.

Personally, I think Ohtani peak opportunity (for now) is still a couple months out. As high as they are right now, if you’re gonna sell, right before WBC may be the time to do it.

Right..i really hate when people try to make people feel like idiots for not selling. I don't want to sell my Ohtani PC..I shouldn't be made to feel like an idiot for not wanting to. It's a hobby to me. I'm perfectly fine financially so if I sell it would just go back into my collection anyways.

Got this in December, finally showed up in my PSA account yesterday. Wanted a forever hold Ohtani for my PC, seeing Gold #/2018 PSA 10's going for a couple hundred less than what I got this for I feel good with what I paid for it.

Nice black! I still regret not loading up on Sho in 2018 as much as i did on Acuna, Soto, and Gleyber. I still have my black update which I purchased raw on ebay in 2018 with a winning bid of $114 29. It ended up grading as a PSA 9.

Curious who was actually all in for Sho in spring 2018 before his injury June 2018. He came back to DH full time July 2018 and didn't pitch all of 2019. Did you hold in 2019 after being all in 2018? Or did you gamble on a full recovery and went all in 2019, covid 2020 season or early on 2021? Any '18 Ohtanis I got were as an afterthought/throw ins from buying Acuna/Soto in winter 2018/spring 2019. Didn't buy singles due to bad memories from Dice-K burnout...hedged to possibly have some Shos through unopened '18 stuff. Can't believe it's been eight years since his MLB stuff came out.
