the square box is notorious for corner dinged cards. The chrome card is also at the end of the box so surface problems are common. Eyes wide open before opening.

You should submit the redemption card for grading. If it gems, who knows, you could get high 4 figures for it! LOL

I keep going back and forth on it. Got it for a good price over a year ago and the appeal of pulling the Ohtani is so exciting. Got the green set as well, same problems with those cards?

This hobby is funny sometimes.

I'm doing spring cleaning and decided to get rid of sealed wax lieing around.

I had opened 5 of 16 boxes of 2022 Stadium Club and there was one box with plastic off but not a single pack opened.

I told myself I guess that one can't be sold since the shrink wrap was already off of it so put in on my desk to open.

The second autograph.... a Pujols / Cabrera Dodgers/Tigers dual auto redemption /10.

Hey, you can still redeem that one since Topps extended the expiration to 10 years for 2022+ redemptions.

Haha, it was about a $5-6K card at the time. I don't plan to bring it up to him again

I do not believe PSA grades redemptions and BGS will only slab it as an ugly authentic.

Here it is

Also got these other randos lying around

Nice! That's why we open. Odds be damned.

I know you don't intend to redeem it but I'd be interested in knowing what Topps would do. Would the system even accept expired redemption codes? Would they send a "decent" (certainly not equivalent) replacement package due to the magnitude of the card?

I am pretty sure I'd rather keep an unscratched redemption (apparently worth at least a few hundred) versus the care package they would send. I have seen expired big hits met with a "sorry about that" and a few packs of cards.

No matter what, they are going to ask me to send it in which leaves me no recourse.

Haha yeah, not many of those out there. Definitely a cool piece to own as an Ohtani collector (if you can't have the card itself).

Just curious if Topps would attempt to partially "make it up" in some way. Based on what you shared though, seems not.

I saw posted in a FB group someone pulled an expired redemption (I think it may have been a blue refractor auto too) and long story short, the person that pulled it threatened legal action against Topps if they didn't send him the Ohtani or equivalent value, so Topps fired back with their lawyer big guns and basically said if you continue to threaten us, we'll see you in court and preserve all documents.

IIRC, they were willing to send some care package, but almost certainly nothing close to the value of a rookie Ohtani auto.

Yes. The system accepted it.

2022+ products get 10 year extension despite the printed date policy. (good for Fanatics for doing this)

18 BC batting PSA 10 just hit $3.2k for the first time since early November. All-time high was in late October at $3.9k. Had been bouncing between 2.5-$3k in between till recently pushing past the $3k barrier. I have a feeling the tide has already started rising again.

Okay, I lied about not being able to buy any Shohei this offseason because I was able to get this early in the offseason for a really good price. Just popped from PSA. Originally in a BGS holder.

We all know the story about this card being signed by Trout and Ohtani and them posing with the signed cards in PSA holders. And as we get closer to the WBC, we'll probably see this card promoted a lot.

Incredible moment. An incredible image, and I'm thrilled to have this in my collection now!

Ohtani market is just simply hot.
Do you actually collect Ohtani cards for the purpose of keeping long term? Or do you mainly buy raw, grade, sell...rinse and repeat?

I was wondering if any of the long term buyers/collectors on here are thinking/tempted of selling their Ohtani cards due to many of them reaching all time highs?

i would say that (at least the vocal ones) do not think about that very often, if at all and are more than happy to be collecting him
