If the Jays win, Vladdy is getting MVP and not anyone on the losing Dodgers. I can't imagine the uproar if someone on the losing Dodgers won over what Vladdy has been doing.

Even crazier to know that the Blue Jays are doing this (mostly) without their best hitter of the season (George Springer).

My thought is as a pitcher breaking a WS record is an outstanding accomplishment. If the Jays win, I think Vlad is the front runner, but think if anyone could pull off WS MVP on a losing team, it would be something like what Ohtani has done. I would not be upset if he didn’t, but would not be surprised if he did.

You mean so if baseball wasn’t baseball?

Yesavage is not gonna win MVP after pitching 2 games and 11.2 innings. If he also helps close out the WS, maybe he has a case then.

I mean look at the Official WS thread before it started for who I mean by “people” which I didn’t say included you. Still makes this ironic/funny as most probably including yourself if being honest never thought this thread would be a possibility as it was made after the Jays tied it ruining many “Dodgers in 5” predictions. Also feels tbh Ohtani collectors/investors etc are doing everything to try and overshadow what Vlad is doing in the WS and spotlighting Ohtani, this thread a perfect example. Many people already added another WS + MVP to his accomplishments which helps their cards. Now that is evaporating, if you ask though I’m sure it’s completely different and they own zero Ohtani’s (right lol) |

I see what you are saying, but I started this thread, because what I love most about baseball is the history and the stats. Winning a WS MVP on a losing team is one that is intriguing to me. Not trying to pump Ohtani (he doesn’t need help anyways), I just see it as in the last 75 years, he is the only one who can be in the talks of being able to do it.

I'm honestly not trying to take anything away from Ohtani, but other then that one game, he hasn't done much offensively other then hitting a meaningless late game HR in a blowout loss. Not to mention, as amazing as it is to both pitch and hit at his level, it can't only be gravy. He did pitch mediocre at best and was responsible for his team's loss in his lone start, which honestly probably ought to be close to disqualifying for the WS MVP even if the Dodger win in 7. Again, I don't want to come off as bashing him, but if we're talking about giving an MVP away to a player on a losing team, I don't think his one amazing game should overshadow a series losing effort. |

If Addison Barger hadn't gotten thrown out at 2B to end game 6, he'd be the favorite for the Jays: .476 BA, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 4 R, 0.48 WPA (leads his team).
Yamamoto is clearly the favorite for the Dodgers: 2 ER, 15.0 IP, 0.65 WPA (leads his team) |
