I noticed the large number of inclusions for the Rockies as well. It's crazy that a team that usually has one of the smallest number of players in most sets got such a crazy run in Update.

10 RCs, 3 rookie debuts, 4 veterans (Senzatela, Tyler Freeman, Mickey Moniak, Thairo Estrada). Strangely, German Marquez has no card in 2025 flagship.

There were 19 total RCs in the 42 card team set this year - a product of so many call ups due to how bad they were. Of those 19 RCs the only ones who may have slight star power are Dollander and Veen (maybe Amador if he can make the full time transition to the bigs). I don't see Veen sticking in the bigs unless he has a huge 2026 spring with Condon and Jared Thomas both slated for AAA next year - I believe both have passed him on the depth chart. The Rockies will probably do something stupid in the offseason like sign Jarred Kelenic.

There’s definitely a cutoff date. Who was the last player to debut in June or later and be in Update? You’d have to waaaay back. Unless there’s a name I’m forgetting?

Logan Henderson debuted on April 20th of this year, btw. He pitched six innings against the A’s that day.

I feel like Veen isn't going to stick either. Too bad as he looked like a really good young player his first few years in the minors. Once he got to the higher levels he just could never get it going.

It's also a bummer Marquez didn't get a card. Even though injuries have completely derailed him I still like him and would liked to have had a flagship this year to pick up.

Another players that's crazy who didn't get in a 42 card team set this year is Victor Vodnik.

Not the depth of 2026, but its not bad. Think we were spoiled a decent amount by Skenes and PCA in 2024, but looking at 2024's Rookie list, I don't think this is as big a downgrade as everyone is making it. 2024 had Skenes, Holliday, Chourio, Merrill (I know PCA, but he wasn't a headliner at this time last year). I think this class has its headliner (Kurtz) along with a similar crop of players that could break out/keep it up (Campbell, Shaw, Simpson, Durbin)

You hit me with a few May debuts, but in reference to my question, it looks like Chris Gittens back in 2021 was the last player to debut in June or later and be in Update. Might be the last time we see that happen for a loooong time.

For me I think we’re just seeing a fuzzy cutoff date that has been hovering around late May for a while now. I know some people have conspiracy theories on this, but if Fanatics was looking to boost sales of a product that needed the boost, manipulating the cuff off to have Roman Anthony IN ‘25 Update would seem to be the play. Series 1 will do just fine without him. And as we’re seeing here, Update seems to be selling just fine without him too. I don’t know if one single player’s RC moves the needle much at release.

I missed presale of this yesterday. This is the first flagship product this year that I can think of that didn’t last a day on pre-sale. Does this mean this is following recent trends and going mostly to breakers? If so, that’d seriously suck for a flagship product.

Very fuzzy indeed. 2022 I thought maybe I goofed something up, or there were no debuts in late May. Nope, there were guys debuted on 5/17 that weren't in until 2023 Topps. Maybe later tonight I can throw in the debut date after the above cutoff that didn't make it also.

What sticks out as funny to me about 2019 is Tommy Edman was the cutoff on 6/8. Yordan Alvarez debuted the next day on 6/9 and we had to wait until 2020 for the RC shield. I remember sitting at work on 6/10 refreshing every minute for hours in anticipation of them releasing a Topps Now auto for him homering in his debut. Was reasonably priced too. I think it was $60 or $70 for the /99.

BO has this up now with listed release date of 10/15. That's a couple of weeks earlier than I expected, if that is in fact correct.
