Thanks! In-hand it will blow you away, the black border and background really work with the motorcycle and rider art

Holy moly, congrats! Next-level awesome card. Really does pop in the PSA slab.

Quite a few of these VIP blacks are off-centered coming off the stock photo, so gem mint far from guaranteed. Will you be grading the other 4-5 GRs, or were you just trying to get one 10?

I flipped 2 or 3, sent the one into grading and have 1 raw still

The copy that gemmed was clearly the standout of the bunch, perfect edges and surface on these is gonna be a tall task on top of the centering issues and PSA's new ultra strict centering guidelines

As cool as the VIP black is, I think the Orange Lava is my favorite. It just works so well with his fiery image. edit: tough to get pics that really show off the effects of each card without glare.

Geez that orange lava GR is nuts! Might be one of the best parallel matches in the whole set.

Love seeing these Ghost Riders, such cool art.

Looks to be about on-par with the other sales I’ve seen. 3 sales I’m aware of…..$2500, $3000, $2500.

If I didn’t have this one I’d have been bidding. Wonder if the reserve on it discouraged prospective bidders (I didn’t see at which point the reserve went away…was still there at 1,100).

As a disclaimer, these pics do not show this set well at all…but the full kaleid set is in hand. (The last piece Rogue came from comc…significantly off center….d’oh! The risk you take buying an expensive uncirculated stock photo card).

I had like 7 in PSA slabs (no 10s. Almost all 9s). To heck with them..just cracked them all out…prefer the set consistency.

Not crazy about just keeping this set in top loaders. Unsure what I’ll do with them

wow

As a casual epack user, I had no illusions of being able to make a kaleidoscope, but did make a few miniboxes. To see them all in one picture is pretty special

As a causal user myself I simply couldn’t do the epack method of accumulating base and trading for the set….no sirree! Working that out, it’s like the equivalent of 100x50 =5,000 digital base needed. Don’t have the stomach for that epack trading haha.

So yea was all from purchasing on comc, eBay, and elsewhere. Mini-boxes are also very cool looking…UD did a great job with the combinables in this. Just wish the pic did it better justice!

Amazing set. I'm starting to believe that this set is my 2nd favorite set, in terms of designs, just below PMG, and followed by golden treasure, then minibox, the holofoil to finish the top 5.

All solid choices. The more I hold PMGs in hand, the more I am amazed by them, and find myself looking past the white border issues. They are way up there in favs, whatever the color.

It’s tough for me to pick from which of the others to single out…I do like the kaleids and mini boxes a lot. But I always have been partial to the gold seismics. I actually like them better visually than the golden treasures, I just like the bright disco gold I guess. The other for me is purple crystal variants, but that may be partly the psychological contribution of their rarity and standing out being blaster exclusives.

Of the major sets I’m going for, the purple vc’s is probably the one I want to complete the most (and looks like will be the last to fall). The gold seismic regulars would be next, then the kaleids I think, but it’s all very close.

1. Kaleidoscope. Best looking by quite a bit, IMO.

2. Holofoil

3. Purple

4. Mini Box

5. Rainbow

And if I was to do my top 3 from the entire set...

1. Kaleidoscope

2. Purple /25

3. Gold /92

All opinions based on collecting the set vs investing. Sadly, the PMG's will probably be at #1 just passed off them being PMG's. We all know this hobby doesn't make sense in that regard. There are plenty of $0.25 cards that look great, have great art and really are just as nice as many $1,000 cards. Rarity and even perceived rarity > looks though
Quoting myself from 9~ months ago...just to see if I still agree...with myself

I'd still argue that LOOKS wise it should still go:

1. Kaleidoscope
2. Purple /25
3. Gold /92

BUT, I will say, that any color matches could really be better looking cards than any of my top 3 sets.

If I was to name my top 5 absolute favorite cards from the entire set, they'd probably be:

1. Spider-Man Red PMG. It's just an iconic image, there are no border issues and it's as matchy matchy as it gets.

2. Hulk Green PMG. The card looks ridiculous.

3. Psylocke Blue PMG. I like Psylocke. It matches. Not much else to say.

4. Wolverine Seismic Gold. Again, it just looks GREAT...it is GREAT and it deserves a spot in the top 5, IMO.

5. Venom Black Achievement. Sick, sick card.

Don’t think I can argue with any of those 5!

Problem is there are just so many color matches that I like across the set…almost impossible to pick 5. For example that GR orange lava posted above…that is a nuts card (or the black). There’s just so much…I really like the regular gold seismic Cyclops for some reason. Pretty much any of those surfer PMGs even when not color matches.

But keeping to your 5, which is a very solid list. I have just two…#4 and 5.

Pretty sure there was a Hulk green PMG posted in the thread, and that card was crazy.

I have to agree about the Spidey Red PMG…could be the best looking card in the set. I don’t think the green PMG would be a good match for him (have yet to see one). The golden treasures and gold PMG also aren’t. The blue PMG is a color match but red’s the best match. There is the red prism and its variant cover…but the reflective foil of the PMG is best. Hard to beat!

The most refreshing thread in non-sports because no one is complaining (the cost, the allocation, the flippers, et. al.).

Nice to see people reveling in their collections and expressing joy.

Agree

Hoping people will keep the pics coming in here, enjoying seeing what everyone’s going for. It really is a fun set, with a lot of diversity in terms of what to collect in it

That'd be a good problem to have ... It's just my favorite 5 cards in the set. Definitely isn't a list of the most expensive cards in the set ... But you're right, there are a ton of color matches and non-color matches that are great looking cards

There's one showing up on Terapeak still. If my list was about value, as far as the 5 cards I listed goes, it'd be on top. But yes, it is just a great looking card.

If someone was to offer me a choice of those, obviously I'm taking the GT & Green PMG > the Red. I could sell either and buy 10+ Red PMG's, haha. But as far as just straight looks go, the Red Spidey is THE card in the set, again, IMO.

Joy you say?! While talking about cards?! I'm(not) shocked

Agreed, though. It is nice to have at least one thread where I'm not whining about something ... At least not anymore. I initially said I hated the PMG's, mostly due to Precious Metal Gems being left off the front(I still think that was insanely lazy of UD to do...), but they've grown on my a LOT. Still not my favorite set(s), but I definitely don't "hate" them anymore

Absolutely. These are some of the highlights from my 2 boxes and 2 blasters. The Purples and Gambit Plexi are my favorite. I actually pulled all 3 clear cuts in the second row from one box.

The funny thing is I have MM series 2 and 3 in binders but no binder for the original series 1. So this platinum set is going in a binder and will fill in for the missing 1.

Very similar boat here- for me it was the white border thing more than the missing text for the PMGs, but same idea. Early in the thread I was harsh on the pmgs for the white borders, and was one reason why I didn’t collect them early on (wish I would have looking back!). But I’m a big fan now- such nice, shiny foil cards mixed with the iconic Jusko art. Also as Kobefan has pointed out- the inclusion of the backgrounds on the PMGs (faintly visible) is a nice touch.

If we were doing the top 5 most expensive cards instead of the top 5 best looking…might go something like this, haha

1. Spidey gold PMG
2. Spidey gold treasures
3. Spidey gold treasures VC
4. Wolverine gold PMG
5. Wolverine gold treasures

Not exactly a diverse list. There could be arguments about moving the Wolverine gold PMG up above some of the non-PMG spideys, or possibly even like the gold Venom PMG sneaking into #5, but I think the above list is pretty solid. Although a Spidey green PMG /10 would be absolutely crazy, I don’t think we’d see it beating these 1/1s (never know I guess, though). We only have one of these 5 cards with a known value thus far, the regular golden treasures spidey sold on Goldin for 44k.

Gorgeous lot here! I’m also partial to the purple crystals. But man that Gambit plexi is great…forgot to include him in these discussions about best looking cards. He’s up there near the top.

Would make a good filler for it

Funny thing is after collecting this 92MM Platinum set all year…I went back to the OG 92 set the other day in my binder…and it just felt weird coming across the Mandarin, Meggan, and Punisher (cards excluded for 92MM Plat)…almost like a “hey I forgot about those!” moment. I know that’s almost sacrilege because the OG 100 cards are “the 92MM set” of course. But I’m basically more used to the new version of this set, having been collecting it so much lately.

(Also the 4th card being swapped out the checklist)….to this day I wish UD did a checklist in 92MM Plat. I’m picturing a PMG red checklist, with the red foil at top (haha). Silly in some ways but I’d be all over that.

Basically... insert virtually ANY Marvel set ever made that had Shiny cards in it, and this would be the basic list. UD, Topps, doesn't matter...Those two are always going to be there.

It makes me wonder if this list stays the same over the next several decades. I don't think Spider-Man ever gets dethroned, at least by anyone that's currently out. They'd have likely made their way closer to him already if that was going to be the case. Could a "new" character sneak in one day? Never really put any thought into that, maybe because it seems so unlikely.

We had this exact(almost) conversation several years ago...on a different thread...but I can't recall which thread it was. Top character related. I recall most of that conversation then and I suspect it really hasn't changed... Maybe I'll go search it out
