Is Mookie hobby-dead? Page nine!!

This caught my attention...for all the wrong reasons. What's the strategy here?

2014 Bowman Chrome #MB Mookie Betts RC Rookie PSA 10 PSA/DNA 10 AUTO
$3,550

(Three bidders involved over $2500.)

Either with or without the auto grade, these have been in the $1800-2300 range. I had one of these and sold it last year for $1750. Same one sold again this year for $2299. Now another one in this auction goes off for $3550 in the midst of a very average year for Mookie Betts.

My only 2 thoughts:

1. It's Probstein. His listings seem to sell for a premium, for one reason or another.
2. I think people do pay extra for that "AUTO 10" dual grade.

Could also just be someone trying to set a comp.

People definitely pay more for dual card/auto grade… even though I think that’s silly.

What's even crazier, from the looks of it the other 3 autographs all could be re-subbed and get 10 auto grades. The next market inefficiency, buy up PSA 10s with autographs and resubmit them for dual-authentication.

I've been considering this for a Steph Curry rookie auto I have. It's a PSA 8/AUTH auto, but I swear the auto is good enough to get a 10.
My fear is if I cracked it and re-submitted for grading, PSA might drop the card grade to a 7 (or even lower). Double whammy would be the auto only got a 9 too. Lol

You don’t have to resubmit. Just ask for a reslab and add an auto grade

I know reslab works to remove the auto grade. But can you really "upgrade" from AUTH to number grade on the auto, with reslab service?

The move back to leadoff hasn't really done much for him. I'm really hoping this isn't the fall-off that hits just about everyone around his age (soon to be 33).

We’re getting exactly what was expected when he got and remained sick in the preseason. His body was literally eating his muscle.

I think of Corey Seager after he came back from TJ, and his body wasn’t even the same. Took a year and he was back to his old self.

I think almost all of us are hoping your scenario is correct. Perhaps we don’t really know how that illness has affected his play, BUT……he is older than Seager was when he battled back from injury. Insurmountable, nah. I have faith Mookie will lock in at our most critical moment, which is pretty much right fing now!

Huge difference between how DRS sees him and OAA (Statcast) sees him. I'm gonna have to side with Statcast on this one -- he has no business being the best rated SS in the NL.
