Fear Street Prom Queen on Netflix was just terrible. I found myself fast forwarding through it in parts just to make it to the end.
I can't believe it was rated R which gave me hope for it, but the kill scenes were terrible and the storyline was even worse. Not a good watch. Do not recommend. |

I especially liked the scene with Tony Todd, but there was more humor than I expected which is a nice balance against all the kills, most of which were pretty gruesome. It's done well at the box office, so there'll definitely be another. Trailer-wise, they showed "The Long Walk" based on the old Stephen King Bachman book, and that looked pretty good. Also, the sequels "Conjuring: Last Rites", "Megan 2", and "28 Years Later". Originals were "Bring Her Back" (from the makers of "Talk To Me"), and "Weapons" in which all of the kids in town suddenly disappear. That last one's from the makers of of "Barbarian". I figure we'll be seeing all of those.

Side note, saw the preview on Max for It: Welcome to Derry. Looks like it's going to be really good with Bill Skarsgard reprising his role as Pennywise. Already on tap for three seasons which is great. |

I just wish his movies were a bit better, but hopefully they'll get better. Not all of Stephen King's movies are homeruns either. |

Just saw "Bring Her Back" from the team that hit with "Talk To Me" a couple of years ago. This one was pretty creepy with some real skin-crawling moments, but at its heart are people dealing with grief at the loss of the loved one, placing it firmly into the the so-called "elevated horror" brand that the A24 Studio has become known for. The ending was a little abrupt for my liking, but solid overall, with plenty of nightmare fuel throughout.
8.5/10

Saw "28 Years Later" at the cinema yesterday. It's from the same writer-director team that made the original "28 Days Later". That wasn't quite 28 years ago, but pretty close.
Excellent acting from the whole cast and some terrific visuals in what remains a fairly unique take on this genre, even with all that followed the success of the original. While the film has plenty of horrific elements, it's more about a kid growing up in a strange world. This definitely sets up the story to continue (the ZCU?) and indeed, the next one is due in early 2026. 8/10

It was a little bit different of a take on vampires, which I enjoyed.
Good acting and vampire effects. I thought it checked enough boxes for horror, but it worked on other levels, too. I liked the after the credits scene that sets up for another movie in that universe, if they want to do it. Writer/Director Ryan Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan have teamed up for "Fruitvale Station", "Black Panther", "Creed", and now this. That's a list of solid winners. The 2025 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards ballot is live now, for those who'd like to make their favorites known. Voting is open thru July 20th. There will likely be a winners show later this year on Shudder, since they are sponsors. https://www.fangoria.com/vote/?utm_s...10k0Qkc.YhjV4S

Not at all what I expected. Similar to from dusk till dawn with the pacing of the horror. Worth a free watch but it wouldn’t have been worth the price of a theater admission imo. It’s very well done and the acting is good.
