For some reason, his defense has made a sharp decline this year but he's usually pretty solid. He is pure power and streaky with Stanton probably being his closest comparison. It would be a classic rental as he would be a FA in 2026. Out of all the 3B that might available at the deadline, this would be the lowest risk and highest reward.

2. Zac Gallen SP - Why not bundle it? Gallen is on the last year of his rookie contract so he would also be a rental. He's had a really tough start to this year but seems to be turning it around with his last 2 starts. Another low risk, high reward get. One trade with the DBacks could change the entire outlook of this season without negatively affecting the future.

3. David Bednar RP - Pirates are sad and will most likely trade anyone if they think that they can get some fresh blood to keep the machine going. He is controllable through 2026 and would join Weaver and Devin at the top of the bullpen for a decent "3-headed monster". He would easily be able to take the closer spot in case of emergencies.
I just read an article regarding the Yankees getting the 1st 2 from Arizona. Sounds good to me.

A fresh bullpen arm would help too considering how overworked ours seems to be.

Seems like the story for the last 3 years with Volpe.

I can't believe how excited I was to find a game used spring training ball of his in Dunedin the day before the Yankees announced he won the starting shortstop job.

Yeah, he really looked annoyed at himself after the 1st one.

Since coming back from injury only 2 players have a better fwar? than Chisholm in that span: Aaron Judge and Cal Raleigh.

The Yankees claim that's why he was sucking. He had the injury and failed to tell anyone.

The Yankees need the sweep today to hopefully keep gaining ground on the Blue Jays as the next series against the Cubs isn't going to be a cake walk.

You still need more arms however
If you look around baseball, there's not a lot of 3B options that could provide immediate value without a serious commitment.

Chapman, for example, is signed through 2030 and I'm not sure if he can sustain his offensive numbers for much longer. He has flashes of greatness but then hits really bad cold streaks.

Other options include Bregman (not happening), Ryan McMahon (weak bat and signed through 2027), Ramon Urias (bad hitter and on the Os), Alec Bohm (Phillies would want ML talent and they don't have anyone to replace him), Arenado (not happening), Ke'Bryan Hayes (sucks and is always hurt)....

Yea, Passan and I are apparently on the same wavelength.

Its interesting that Cashman said he's looking for an "infielder" could maybe mean a SS???

Look, DJLM being DFA'd (and then released just now) felt different than what we are used to from this front office.

But... Volpe is going nowhere this year. If the 3B market is thin, then the SS market is a wasteland.

Yeah wishful thinking on my part...I'm sure we'll end up with a AA utility player from the Pirates....

Well he's not going to publicly say Volpe sucks and he's looking to get rid of him. No GM would do that.

Saw Cashman being interviewed and unfortunately Volpe is going nowhere.

If you took away Volpe’s batting average and just showed his home runs and runs batted in you would think he was having a pretty good season, but when you look at how his fielding has regressed and how many men he leaves on base it tells a different story.

Gallen and Bednar are high on every buyers list including the Jays. Curious to see who snatches them up.

There really isn’t any shortstop out there that would be a big enough upgrade to even bother making a move and trust me I am not a big Volpe fan.

I could see Cohen of the Mets spending money on Gallen as he seems to want to win the battle of New York at any cost.

At least he’s familiar to the team.

The only way the Yankees get rid of Volpe is if Hal fires Cashman in October and they sign Bo Bichette temporarily until Lombard Jr. is ready (if he survives this year's trades).

Only if you are a "chick who digs the long ball" and completely ignore the fact that he has left more runners on base than anyone else in the MLB this year.

I'd wager he'd still be better than Volpe.

Volpe, needs to shorten up his swing and go the other way on outside pitches and stop trying to pull everything
