Compared to what? Certainly not other 2024 football. Something recent like those 2024 Totally Certified boxes that sold out quicky at close to $200? You get 1 auto and probably a crappy one. Who cares about numbered cards from a brand like Totally Certified? Contenders FOTL you supposedly get 6 autographs, 1 /49 or less, and at least 1 on card. That's just the autos. I know basically no one collects anymore but this is not a bad rip at all compared to other 2024 football.

Just in general, I imagine it's hard to build hype around a product 4 months after the Super Bowl and over a month after the 2025 draft.
If this is true why was everything 2023 Football sky high this time last year? With at this present time compared to that point last year, 2024 is a way better class. It's not even remotely close.

The reason is because the football wax market is in the toilet. People are interested in breaking many other things over football at this time. I guess we will see if anything changes in 2-3 months before the season starts.

I just commented on this. Since 2000 only a couple rookies who won Superbowls did NOT have contenders autos, and the values are light-years apart.

That said, I think I saw a couple JJ McCarthy autos listed for $10k+ on eBay already. Will be interested to see if he takes some snaps this year.

Am I nuts, or are the only cards anyone cares about from panini (considering the lack of autos), prizm, optic and select (we'll see how the clearly downtowns hold up), then for Topps it's just Topps chrome, then a bunch of sticker auto factory stuff? Finest is alright, but resurgence looks super weird and cosmic is a bit odd too. I thought panini lost the license in January next year, but I saw something earlier that said April 26...

I'll never understand why panini didn't go balls out to sign every big rookie when they knew they were losing the licensing.

Well wax is also 2-3-4 times higher then it should be.

And ultra modern singles market is garbage

Everyone looks at those massive sales. But 90 percent of market is so bad

Massive over production? I suppose

It has not slowed gambling though

I watched multiple different humans open optic football and bowman jumbo baseball at LCS

All losing 300-600’per box

It’s not all breaking bois

This seems to not be true for almost all 2024 football. I don't think there is a single product selling for 4 times MSRP. If these products were even 2 or 3 times what they should be, let alone 4 times, almost every football product would under MSRP. I realize many of the top players don't have autos but this 2024 class is looking like it has a chance to be one of the best in a long time.

Contenders compared to last year just shows you how much football is dead right now. Contenders Optic FOTL is this week. Last year, 2023 Contenders Optic FOTL sold out at $593. This year it should for sure hit the $350 floor or one drop above around $377. Im not sure how anything above $350 is a better deal than Contenders FOTL at $272 so no idea why anyone would buy above the floor. Regardless, that's 60% of the cost with a way better class and at least 2 of the QBs having autos this year compared to a grand total of 0 last year.

Here are some recent other sports examples. 2025 Bowman Sapphire is $850-$900 a box. You get 1 whole auto and 3 numbered cards. What are the chances of doing better on that than 3 2024 Contenders FOTL boxes plus having some money left over? Very very slim.

2024-25 Topps Chrome UEFA Club Soccer FOTL is around $450 a box. You get 1 whole auto and 3 parallels. What can you even get out of these? It's not 1st year. There is no hot rookie or new signers like Yamine last year.

Even 2024-25 basketball there is a recent product selling way better than 2024 football. Look at 24-25 Deca Basketball compared to 2024 Deca Football and tell me how that makes any sense.

People just don't want football right now for whatever reason.

The same cards people were chasing on the 2023 version that was close to double the cost. This year you at least have 2 QB autos to chase that people want. Last year you had 0.

Still no checklist, but I have seen some oddball names popping up for sale, so at least Panini isn't phoning it in on that front.

IMHO this is the Best Buy currently on the market. I just picked up three boxes on Paninis website.

Where are you going to get 5 autos guaranteed (average) for $270???

The 2024 class was pretty good. 6 QB’s + several great WR’s.

I’m stashing these three boxes as they will definitely go up in value with this class.

$270 is a no brainer in my opinion

It's $270 for a reason...

And watch what that $270 turns into in 3 years. I’m good with stashing my purchase. Well, I’ll probably open one box with the family

If this had the full QB class in autos it would be a fun rip.

These (bolded) account for a VERY small percentage of overall autos. If it was $270 and I knew I'd get QB or top tier WR hits? Great buy. Getting 5th round WRs holds less allure.

You could be right but.... be careful.

You better check the checklist, of the top 6 QBs in this class I think there are only 3 of them that have autos. Thats why its so low, No Daniels, Caleb, or Nix.

Default First Buzz: 2024 Panini Contenders football cards

You are never guaranteed a high target auto, BUT your odds increase if you try.

As I stated, I will be stashing two boxes (maybe the 3rd) to sell later on.

The contenders rookie ticket will always be collected thanks to Brady, and now Mahomes. This is Panini’s last (for now) official rookie ticket card.

I will be the litmus test for a hold on this product. If I lose, I’m out a whopping $270 ($886.79 for the three).

I mean it's pointless lol. I don't know why I post on here anymore period. It's frustrating and almost always a waste of time. It started in 2020 when meeting so many of these people to sell in person, at card shows, stores, and shops. It's been this way the last 5 years.

This business has attracted the dumbest people walking the earth. There is no close second. I worked at a casino for 10 1/2 years. If you explained and showed the odds of this stuff versus casino games the casino people would ask how the hell the card business could even exist. If casinos had the same odds as the vast majority of card boxes and specifically breaks casinos wouldn't exist because almost everyone would stop going.

The low intelligence level of people in the hobby now is quite staggering.

I see what you are saying. But Brady and Mahomes are collected because they are Brady and Mahomes. There is also a graveyard of average and no-name QBs from Contenders littering discount boxes.

But hey, if a guy hits, then maybe it's a thing. Like you said - at $270, might as well take a flyer on boxes.

I opened 1 pack of contenders, hit a JJ variation auto, think I’ll stop.

It’s an addiction just like anything else. Sometimes it’s just the enjoyment of opening packs, or collecting sets. Sometimes it’s just a way to pass time, or enjoy time with family.

Not everyone enjoys this hobby for the sole purpose of “beating the odds”.

Actually no but I do know that Daniels, Nix, and Williams all have Fanatics Exclusive Auto contracts. Meaning none of them can sign anything for Panini.
