I think most are trying to help because those cards won't hold value. If they do it's minimal at best.

If you want cards that will hold long term value then you need to sell all of your base cards and invest in rarer cards. Investing in cards is rarely a good idea but good luck.

I am not a card dealer. I don't rely on making money on cards to buy new cards. If I was motivated to sell my cards I would be happy to take a loss. At this point it is just not worth my time.

I agree with you on long term value SP, SSP, numbered cards and autos are where its at.

I also agree with you investing in cards is a terrible idea (compared to investing in the stock market, real estate etc.). That is why I don't invest in cards.

I do enjoy collecting cards. And yes I want them to go up in value and not down.

I feel like you're going to be spinning your wheels on your collecting journey. If you're not motivated to sell at all then why are you so worried about long term value? It just doesn't compute.

Now everyone wants their cards to go up but guess what? Most of them will go down.. its the "tax" that TBP was talking about. Good luck!

Soto is a terrible investment going forward. Best case scenario now looks like Pujols light. If you’re in it for the money, there’s no better time to sell Soto than now.

Some people buy stocks and try to time the market and sell for a profit. Most just buy and hold long term and hope to sell for a profit when they retire.

Just because I am not motivated to sell my cards in the short term, doesn't mean I wont want to sell them in the long term/future when I have more time on my hands.

Oh I thought I read that you're a collector and will never sell.

I hope it works out for you because long term most cards will go down.

Thanks, I hope it works out for me too! I consider the money I spend on cards, my fun money. I realize it is really gambling. And while I have gambled and lost of most of my cards, I am hoping to win a few too!

So your rule is if you collect a player you don't sell.

Have you ever PC a player and then decided you didn't want to anymore and then sold everything?

It’s normal for collecting interests to change over time.

It’s not normal to only ever talk about the dollar value of the cards you are collecting.

Reggie sold all his trouts at “ just the right time” then guess what he did ? Went out and furthered his collection of other players….just because you sell doesn’t mean you have to stop liking the player, you just do what you have to do for the betterment of your collection I think. Pretty simple. You can even keep a card ! Then again some people tattoo numbers and names on themselves…

Reggie did it right.

If anyone is selling Soto, this is a high market for him right now.

Lol some folks need to get a grip. This is year 1 of 15 on the Mets. They make the playoffs, he does Juan Soto things in the playoffs, and all will be forgotten regarding his slow start in April and May in year 1 of 15.

Yes and maybe pigs will fall from the sky and the Irish claim world dominance. There is a difference between actual baseball and hobby baseball, Soto is priced to a point that there is only one way and that is down and not every collector wants to look ahead 15 years because he will be a washed up DH by then.

The batting stats get better starting today.

The Rockies are in town and the starting pitcher is Kyle Freeland who is 0-7 with a 5.86 ERA.

Soto has this!!!

I sold my Trout collection and never looked back. I ended up buying key cards of players I love more (Ichiro & Stephen Curry) with that money. I love Trout and believe he is a hall of famer, regardless of his injuries.. but Ichiro & Curry are my dudes.

Soto is still young. He has accomplished a lot and accumulated amazing total career stats for his age. Remember: “Baseball is 90% mental and the other half is physical” (quote from Yogi Berra). Soto’s mentality is still maturing. Soto can have two back to back MVP caliber seasons moving forward and his card prices will skyrocket again. I believe Soto is just adjusting to his new environment. This is nothing new to “Soto Collectors”. We’ve been here before.

Reggie206...what baseball players do you PC besides Ichiro and Soto? Do you also love Soto more than Trout? Do you collect Ohtani and Judge?
