Give me those commons, I'm a set builder. Yes, I know I could just buy a factory set. I buy to open and sort and organize the cards. That's where I get my enjoyment. Not from the rush of hoping for a monster card to cover my cost. |

I guess I don’t understand why people are upset at fanatics. In general 2025 is a VERY poor rookie class from top to bottom(series1-update) especially compared to 2022-2024.
People are upset that Cam Smith, Matt Shaw, and Kristian Campbell are only SPs and not base. Would that make it THAT much better? Shaw was batting .174 and Cam Smith is currently batting .214…Kristian Campbell is the only one with decent stats at a .745 OPS and most of that was accrued from his hot start. And someone mentioned Max Muncy I think…with a solid .490 OPS this year….this isn’t Topps fault, it’s just not a good class. I hope Topps does provide the black parallels for both series but the All Kings insert looks like a nice addition. I’m just confused in general why people seem upset at Topps for a very poor rookie class |

At the end of the day, it's a flagship product, it's going to sell itself from the start. |

There’s nothing more interesting than 15 people jumping in a thread to tell you they’re “passing” on a product. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If you are interested in making money on a product, you will have a much easier time making money on a flagship release with an abysmal checklist than you will on even the best chrome release.
Like others have said, the 2025 rookie class is weak. It’s difficult to make that look appealing to most collectors but that is out of everyone’s control.

You seem to be missing the point that Topps follows pretty standard historical lines with how rookies are distributed in the 3 flagship series. Series 1 contains a mixture of rookies called up after the cutoff date for the previous year's update release. There is usually at least one big name rookie in series 1 if there is one. Series 2 contains the rest of the callups from the previous season (and sometimes some SPs of opening day rosterees who will have their base rookie in Update). And Update contains those who made the opening day roster through some cutoff date in May (or June in previous years). That's it. The only maneuvering done is when is the cutoff date for a player to be in either Update or the next year's Series 1, which headlining rookie from the previous season to put in Series 1, or whether to have SPs in Series 2. That's it. The rest of the rookies from the previous year are spread throughout Series 1 and Series 2, with Series 1 getting top billing priority. So no amount of pointing out how many great rookies will be in Update will change the fact that based on history, NONE of them had a chance to have base cards in Series 2. Players who debuted this season essentially NEVER have a base card in Series 2. |

The problem is that there's really no reason (other than greed) for flagship to be divided into three separate series.....

Could you imagine the complaining how if they would have left Series 1 and 2 as one set? You think the odds of even completing a set or hitting the top rookies is bad now, imagine if the base checklist was 825 cards. Traded/Update has been around in some form pretty much since the 1980s. I think it should be two series at this point ... but that would mean it comes out later than it does for Series 1 and that probably pushes Update into late in year.
Of course, sets made in a current year should reflect the previous season -- not force 2025 teams onto cards made to show 2024 team (Juan Soto Mets an example) along with rookies.

It used to be 7 series. So 3 doesn't sound so bad.

Make it 3 series and get rid of update. 792 cards (330,330,132). Series 3 would replace update and have half the print run of series 1.

I described the Pete Rose thread as “old man yells at cloud”; this one has more of an “old men yells at each other” vibe. |

Am I the only one who now gets a username/PW prompt whenever I try to get to Topps' checklists and odds pages? (It won't accept my PW, either.)

Glad they list the S1 Blacks.
PR is up 15% for Hobby though. Not a great thing for a weak class. |
