As far as I can tell, Topps was not actively marketing that the card was still out there. I don't recall seeing any type of posts from Topps since Christmas saying anything like "Hey, the Paul Skenes card is still out there."

The biggest piece of information missing right now is when did Topps know.

There's a possibility that the family waited a few weeks to get things in order before they submitted the code. It's possible that all of this could have taken place over the span of a couple days. It's a huge card, it's jumping the line everywhere.

Yeah, that’s my point. They conveniently left out the part of the journal where he mentioned anything about deciding to get the redemption fulfilled. Given the language used in the supposed journal, I’m guessing, if it’s left, he would’ve put something in there. And yeah, if I’d have gotten this, I would’ve waited to tell anybody. Get finances in order…but I probably would’ve told Topps it was pulled pretty quick to find out options and would they offer deals on grading, etc.

It’d be interesting to see the full timeline of Topps’ marketing and when they knew…bc if they knew and still marketed it, I’d have a huge problem with it. If they just said it’s a great card…I mean, we’re just all dumb for falling for it (for what it’s worth, I didn’t buy a hobby box of this. Prices were too high, checklist too large to get anything of note).

I guess I should clarify this again. It doesn't appear that Topps has been marketing the card recently. In my mind, marketing the card would be making comments about it, saying that it still hasn't been claimed, etc. I don't consider not saying anything to be marketing the card.

I will point this out as to why I don't think they contacted Topps right away. Having Topps submit the card gets all of the fees waived (at least, it was that way last year). You're talking about thousands in fees being waived. And I don't think anyone high up with the company is getting involved until the code was entered or had verifiable proof.

Actually, they marketed this card as of January 8 on their Instagram and hinted that people had a chance. Here’s a screenshot of their social media post. They said the kid pulled it on December 25. I’d really hope that the family did not contact them by January 8. Bc if they did, that’s all kind of sleazy by Fanatics…it’s funny that they only released the info once it was graded by PSA where the grades are made public. I have some serious suspicions that Topps knew about this prior to January 8.

If you follow the timeline. They announced it one day. The breaker got the card and delivered it to PSA after that. PSA is absolutely jumping this to the front of the line. And yes, it's absolutely possible all of this happened with this week.

Oh, it’s totally possible Topps only knew about it this week. I just have questions given the timeline that they released saying it was pulled on December 25 and the fact that they advertised it on January 8. It’s also quite possible that their social media team was not informed that it was pulled already…in which case, that is on them for still advertising it after it was pulled.

To be fair, until the code is entered or they received the actual redemption card, they should continue to operate under the opinion that the card has not been pulled. Some random calling saying they pulled the card is meaningless.

A card this big, 100% possible.

PSA literally has a standard 5 day turnaround option for regular cards. So yeah, completely possible that the card went from redeemed to graded within a week

Keep thinking that Fanatics violated a bunch of fraud laws to sell product.
