Some of these 50% off sales don’t necessarily make them an automatically good deal. $15 a flair pack to start with is comically bad for a pack of flair. $7.5 is maybe….ok at best. (What do sketches even fall in this? I assume it’s 1 in several boxes).

When you take into account comc flood and price deflation of singles, it makes it even a tougher gamble. I did 5 packs of Flair and got clobbered, best card I think was a Silver Surfer Powerblast SP (sounds…ok right?…head over to comc and it’s going for like $3.50 lol).

I did 3 Allure and got an Emily VanCamp auto so I guess it’s somewhat a wash, but my lesson learned is even with % off discounts it’s so easy for this to be a money pit.

I remember when Marvel Allure was announced thinking it would be a fun break and likely the final Infinity Saga set. It also looked like a set with too many parallels and not the greatest card designs. Plus, it seemed clear it needed to be opened by the case but for whatever reason cases were 20 boxes which pushed the price up far too high for me.

Skimming through the Allure thread here and it looks like the earliest pre-orders were $200 for boxes (June 2022) and prices quickly jumped to ~$300 at release (June 2023) before falling to $125 just a month after the set hit e-Pack (January 2024). So that's $6,000 for a case down to $2,500.

Physical boxes are now $99.95 and physical cases are $1,899.95. Boxes on e-Pack at 50% off are $77.49 and cases are $1,524.99.

I'm getting tempted. $1,500 is still a lot of money, though, and from the few breaks shared here it's 4-5 autos per case if you're lucky or as few as two autos if you're unlucky. Plus on e-Pack too many of the cards are going to be digital base. I just don't think I can justify starting off 2025 $1,500 in the hole and hope I hit a big card or two.

Did a pack of Allure yesterday after seeing everyone's hits. Got a red flashing card, turns out its a /199 card worth literally less than the pack is worth lol. Debating not doing epack again until I see a 75 off sale for something.

I'm honestly shocked Topps hasn't launched their own e-pack yet. Hell, they run a gambling site, this would probably have a fraction of the regulation which would make up for the increase in overhead.

I've mentioned this before, so sorry for those that have read it before. But I did some rough back-of-the-napkin work and could (relatively) easily duplicate the way ePack and COMC could work. It's pretty straightforward from a database perspective. And COMC is just an inventory management system.

But what COMC has is the staffing, processes, and (most importantly) the organization and warehouse space already in place. Sure, those are items that could be overcome by just throwing money at it (Fanatics M.O., right?), but it would probably be pretty costly to get off the ground.

Who knows if the UD -> COMC relationship is exclusive from a manufacturer standpoint. But theoretically COMC could just add more staff (to take care of scanning, collating, and pulling orders) and Topps could replicate the ePack piece themselves.

Maybe they call it FANnyPACK. Those are coming back, right?
