So how are all the Ohtani collectors feeling today? This season has been a real roller costar! In general Ohtani exceeded all expectations coming into this year. MVP as a DH, 50/50, WS champ.

I can't wait for the next chapter of this ride next year when Ohtani is both pitching and hitting again. But I have no idea what that is going to look like. I assume he will have command issues coming off his 2nd tommy john and overall expect him to be an above average pitcher his first year back (but not pitching at an all star level). On the hitting end I expect some regression with way lower stolen bases (especially after dislocating his shoulder). Probably something like .280 avg, 40 HR, 20 SB. And of course winning another MVP (assuming good health).

My collecting plans have not changed this off season. Would like to pick up a few SSP cards that are in the high end price range, and then stick to my usual finding under valued SP, SSP and numbered RC cards. Should be a fun off season.

What about everyone else on here?

Does the fact that Ohtani was pretty much a no show for the World Series and most of the post season have any effect on his hobby value or does being on the World Series championship team automatically increase his hobby value?

No, the Dodgers winning the WS sweeps most of his underperformance (a lot due to him injuring his shoulder) under the rug. He'll be named MVP in a couple weeks and people will remember that and his 50/50 season and the Dodgers winning the WS.

Now if he puts up a similar stank performance during the playoffs next year too, then one can start to wonder if he doesn't have the playoff magic.
