1) I signed up to talk sports cards.

2) I'm talking sports cards.

3) I'm not even remotely mad.

4) If you've pumped money in to WNBA products, especially high end singles, you're going to be bitterly disappointed in 5 years time.

The comparison between sporting leagues/codes were between developed nations with similar rates of female sporting participation and interest. I'm making a market observation that has precedent; if you believe that inorganic marketing and "drama" can sustain this level of interest - exceptionally high above the mean - then by all means continue to believe it.

Reality is that 12 months ago 90% of social commentary related to the WNBA was jokes about making sandwiches, etc. Now, most of it is about racial division between two rookie prospects and a drama-hype train built around it. You are more than free to continue to play along, but most people will die off similar to almost all other inorganic movements in history.

This is not a "females are bad" argument, you can take off your shining armour.

In terms of the current sports card market, do you have any clue what you're talking about? I'd estimate less than 0.1% of people buying these cards care what the price is in 5 years. There is a better chance someone holds on to a card or a box for only 5 days than 5 years.

I'm not talking about flipping to take advantage of the stupidity. I'm talking about the stupidity.

Wouldn't be surprised if he resurrected as RKH916 in the meantime lol he loves racial division and seems like the type who would buy a gutted MJ collection for over-value.

Australian rules football is hilarious though, what's the NCAA for that where Clark really became a superstar?

Just to print photographs of women onto cardboard. $800. Doesn't compute.
Cmon, lol. You’re far better than this.

I’m not as wnba fan, but it’s not hard to connect the dots here. Look at attendance - way up. Whether you compare this year to 2019, 2023, whatever.

Caitlin Clark’s 1st chrome bowman U base sells for $30.

If you were actually reading what I was posting you'd see that I can't stand it.

I'm open to honest conversation hence posting the thread. Please post in there and give me your take on it/what your value for it would be.

I noticed that as well. Also, oddly enough most sites put hobby select back up to $9000 a case. I know that’s where it started but I wanna say in the last week or so cases dropped a bit to around $8600ish

Did you recently wake up from coma that started in 1997. The WNBA rise to the public eye and in the hobby has been slowly building momentum for the last few years. Just a few years ago people were chasing Ionescu rookies pretty rabidly. She also has one of the most popular signature shoes Nike has to offer. A good amount of NBA players were rocking her line last year and the hype build up for her second shoe was really huge. I mean I was chasing a Candace Parker auto in 2008 press pass of all things. Again this has been slowly building. Luckily I hit one and those particular autos are worth more today than they were 16 years ago. Pretty good chance anyone invested into WNBA won’t be anymore disappointed in their investments than they are in their NBA or other sports cards. It’s all about how you invest in. It’s not a passing fade

I remember buying a box of prizm whenever Ionesco was a rookie, very similar to now with Caitlin and maybe Angel or bust. The demand outside of maybe 5-6 players is non existent. I still have them listed with zero interest. Seems smarter just to buy the Caitlins or Angels off EBay, not as fun but you won’t likely pull them paying $750 a box.

Question

Panini D/A question.

Q1: when price drops every 5 mins by what amount is it dropping?

Q2: is it the same throughout the auction?

varies by product. but you can calculate it by dividing the start price and floor and dividing the total time by how many 5 minute increments there are.

I haven't watched one of these in a long time but I think the time is usually 2 or 3 hours? So, if the total auction time is 2 hours you have 24 drops. 3 hours is 36 drops. The start price is $3000, floor is $750.

$2250 / 24 = $93.75 per drop
$2250 / 36 = $62.5 per drop

Otherwise you'll find out 5 minutes after it starts

I've had more and more people coming in the shop specifically to buy WNBA cards. I think it's more of the old school Basketball Purists who like passing, defense, mid range jumpers, etc...
