The Topps Chrome brand is just getting pumped so much lately. Everyone is riding the unlicensed basketball wave and the anticipation of Fanatics having all the licenses.

That said, the 17-18 1st year chrome Mbappe will always be expensive because it's the first chrome set for UCL. Plus the parallels look great.
He's in a PSG kit and only time will tell how people remember his time there and if that impacts his 17-18 "rookie" card prices.

There's no true "rookie". There's a rookie sticker and a rookie card. I don't collect stickers (except for albums) and only care about cards. There are people that only collect stickers and don't care about cards. Tons of people collect both.
Exactly my point.

There is a true rookie. Its a sticker that came out before anything else. A year before anything else. You dont collect them, okay, grand. But that doesnt mean its no longer relevent. Its just not your cup of tea.

You could say, "He had a sticker in 2016 that was out a year before any of his cards, but I dont collect stickers, only cards, so I think the Match Attax card is his first one".

Cases of 17/18 Chrome were $600 earlier in the year and then skyrocketed pretty fast and the set really took off.

The only people that seem to have a problem is the sticker guys in this thread. Buy what you like but you are not going to convince the rest of us to stop collecting the 17/18 Topps Chrome as our most preferred RC.

That set is iconic for soccer collectors and the fact it has an Mbappe early cards is icing on the cake. End of story.
You can collect what you want, its up to you. But Panini stickers are more iconic than Chrome will ever be when it comes to soccer.

I literally said that multiple times in this thread to collect what you want but I completely agree with you, stickers are way more iconic if you look at the history of the hobby but this particular Topps Chrome set is iconic too and not just because of Mbappe but also because of the gorgeous color parallels and the brand.

Plenty of options for every type of collector is all and that is the hobby now and I am fine with that.

No, that's not my point.

If Mbappe had a licensed poster from 2015, I wouldn't go around telling people "That's his true rookie, his sticker is not". And it wouldn't make his poster irrelevant.

He has a rookie sticker and a rookie card. Both are independent of each other. The fact that some of the collector base for those overlap doesn't matter.

Something like a poster would be absurd though and completely out of the scope of the hobby. In the bigger picture of the football hobby, all of trading cards, stickers, cigarette cards, card discs, trade cards, etc are from the same tree and either evolved off one another. or split off from a common parent. The end-point industry; PSA, and auction houses like Goldin and Fanatics Collect treat them all the same and as interchangeable things.

Football has a unique spot as a truly international sport along with the hobby that has grown alongside since the 19th century. There are conventions from all sorts of periods and places, none are more right than others and each has carved their place out. Newer conventions don't replace the old ones they just add to them. It ends up a big old omelette, everyone is free to eat as much or as little as they want, but there is no unmaking it.

Let's say you're right then you would all be calling his match attax card his rookie card, but you don't.

Most soccer collectors migrated from other sports and bought the same set as the basketball etc that they collected.

You're more than likely right that the market will see the chrome set as the premium card to collect, but it will never be a rookie set.

I know of at least three sets that have him in a Monaco shirt. He won the league in that shirt. Got to the semi finals of the champions league.

The Match Attax Mbappes are different in the sense that their purpose was to play a game unlike stickers for an album or typical cards for a binder that were for collecting.

Match Attax cards are more like tcg cards.

They are collected though by people who like soccer. Much like TCG cards are collected.

I always read on here that Match Attax are no good, no one collects them. But there are more kids collecting Match Attax than Chrome.

A bit surprising at this point that neither his slow start at Madrid nor the recent rumors of legal issues have had a bigger impact on his short term card values. Ive been wanting to pick up a nice Mbappe rookie....but Im in a holding pattern currently until all this settles.

People holding the line on prices right now if they bought in during his latest run before debuting.
He'll likely see a dip if he goes trophyless or suffers a serious injury.

Fwiw, 2018 Panini Father’s Day #68 is the only Mbappe card with an RC badge.

Gee you don't happen to have one for sale on any auction site by chance, do you?

As a matter of fact I do, why do you ask? Is this still the Kylian Mbappe rookies thread or has it been transformed into something else by a couple trolls?
