Not until he's done collecting money from the Mets.

Extremely biased, but....

He's a year removed from 160 innings of a 3.2 ERA, and pre-injury this season in 50 innings had an ERA in the mid 3's. I'd venture he's not entire healthy and came back too soon.

Hoping he finishes his career where he belongs still, with the Tigers.

That's done by the end of the month, as there's zero chance he pitches 140 innings this season.

If Verlander wants to lock in that $35 million guarantee for next year, he'll need to average 22 IP over each of his next 3 starts.

The only pitchers to average 22 IP over three straight starts are Sidd Finch, Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin.

I love JV. But I think both Scherzer and JV are just hanging on and really aren't providing much value on the field anymore. I don't expect them to get any heavy innings or stay healthy an entire year. Neither are signed after this year I don't think. Neither have anything more to prove for their careers.

nope, just having a stretch of struggle this summer, maybe mechanics need to be tweaked. Don't forget April and May in 8 starts he was 3-2 with an ERA around 3 and WHIP of 1.1

I personally think Scherzer has plenty more to offer. He may not pitch lots of innings ever again, but I believe he still has the ability to get dialed in and be one of the very best for stretches of time.

He just needs to go to Germany in the off season and get his blood spun or something. If he can hang till he's 44-45 like Clemens and Ryan then he could be the last 300 game winner in history.

6 starts is nothing and his start against Boston was fine.

Yeah, his motivation is the 300 win thing. Hard to see him getting there, but he has defied the odds in the past.

He is holding on for 300 wins potentially, and If this trend continues into next year he should just hang it up and not limp into it

How many posting know more than just scouting the total ERA line this year? Honestly. He should retire for a couple bad starts?

True. But we’re talking about 6 games and really it’s 4 games since the 1st two games were before the injury. But really it’s the last 3 games since the 4th game was fine. I am sure he’s had just as bad three game stretches in his career.

I would say If you are posting on here regularly, you should be looking a lot deeper than just ERA. I do think as I stated before he is holding on for 300, and If he reverses this trend of 6 games, and comes back injury-free next year he should keep going.

IF he continues to struggle into next year, then it might be time to look at hanging it up as he will be 42

Don't forget Kazuo "The Uzi" Uzuki.
He did it three different times!

I would consider it if the alternative was going home to spend time with Kate Upton

He's got what, two World Series rings and two Cy Youngs with the Astros, right? I wouldn't mind seeing him get a third World Series and go into the HOF as a 'Stro just to make Tigers fans suffer.
