Was almost washed away to the sea in the Gulf of Mexico. I had a homemade raft I made out of Styrofoam that I used to go crabbing/fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, but one storm almost pulled me out into the sea but I was able to hop overboard and kick like a madman and get that sucker back to shore. Never went out in it again after that, pretty scary for an 11 year old kid. I know right? WHERE WERE MY PARENTS?!! They were at work. Us Latch Key kids did some crazy stuff.

So many bored kids have met their end in the Gulf.

My college buddy liked to tell the story of how he and a friend back in Houston once decided they were going to swim out to one of the buoys. Turns out the buoy in the distance was A LOT farther out than they realized and they would have drowned if the coast guard hadn't come by to pick them up.

Kind of interesting that the two Phoenix guys are the ones who have taken a dip in the Dead Sea.

I was 20 and living in Missouri.

Maybe all that salt and heat changed us subconsciously. (I've actually still got a scar on my wrist where I suffered a nasty cut on the giant salt crystals coming back to shore.)

For most activities, knee-deep is plenty.

Sharks freak me out. I know they don't usually attack people but ever since one nipped on my kayak paddle and chased me for like a quarter mile, I haven't wanted to swim in the ocean.

Knee-deep is all I'm willing to do.

Sounds like my daughter... read books and books on sharks, but now all of a sudden won't go in the water. We could barely get in her past her ankles when we were in Costa Rica, she is 11 now... put her in a pool or lake and she wont ever come out.

Was also in Gulf of Mexico and I know I went down the Rhine River in Germany. Forgot if I went into the Rhine.

I've been in the Pacific Ocean (Santa Monica, La Jolla, Oceanside, Laguna) and the Gulf of Mexico (Madeira Beach in FL/John's Pass area), and the Atlantic Ocean (Miami). I liked Madeira Beach the best
