The Mantle is mine, but the Koufax belongs to my coworker. His family moved from Queens to DFW in 1996. When they were moving, they lifted up a dresser, and the Koufax was crinkled up under the dresser. My coworker's dad thought they had gotten rid of all of his cards, so finding Koufax was a nice surprise. Even though in awful condition, he's held on to it all these years since it's the last card he had from his childhood.

He eventually gave it to my coworker, his son, and my coworker learned I was interested in cards. He asked about the Koufax when I told him I was thinking about subbing cards. I told him it would grade authentic, and the coworker said he didn't care. He added he wanted it slabbed to give to his dad, who isn't doing well health wise.

So he decided to have it slabbed SGC since it's a quick turnaround. I gave it to him today, and he's going to give to his dad, who lives with him, when he gets home after work.

To collectors that are about the money and the PSA/SGC 8s-10s, this card and story is worthless. But to my coworker and I, it's a priceless story.

BTW, I thought the Mantle would come back a 2 or 2.5. So I was pleasantly surprised it came back a 4.

Great story on the Koufax!
What a terrific gift from son to father.

I simply love that card and the story behind it.

Priceless!

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted a card in here. Probably my first this year.

Here is an addition to my 1959 Topps HOF collection.

1962 and 1963 Topps cards of Lee Walls.
Same image used on both cards.

Great card. Colors like this make me appreciate this set more.

My first "pre-war" card. Picked up at the LCS today. Liked the centering.

Great card! Hubbell was my first Goudey card as well. A little disappointing with 1933/1934 Goudey when they made identical cards. I am looking for the 1933 Goudey #230 of him pitching to go along with the one I have. The Playball cards are nice, but his Goudey cards are his best IMO.

It is fun to research these players. Two time National league MVP and he still owns the record with 24 consecutive wins.

I just bought this one last month. First Goudey, first Hubbell.

I thought the centering and color were good, and the small 'C' written in pencil in the corner didn't detract from the image as it's kind of hard to notice that it's not supposed to be there. There's a wrinkle across the card, otherwise this probably gets a 3(MK). The back is clean. Auctioned for $159. A 3 goes for $350-400+.

Nice Hubbell. I've got an extra FS here if you're looking to add another.

I need help identifying something. I picked this card up at a postcard show over the weekend. I've looked on eBay, Leland's, Heritage, Hake's, TCDB, COMC, PSA, SGC, and non-sport.com, but I can't find anything. The size is 4 15/16 x 2 1/2, on sturdy cardboard, and has a blank back but looks glued.

Alexander Fans Lazzeri to Defeat Mighty Yankees.

SITUATION
Deciding game, 1926 World Series, New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals, at New York. Grover Alexander, who had won his second victory of the series the day before, unexpectedly was sent to the rescue of Jess Haines as Yankees filled the bases in the seventh with two out. Tony Lazzeri, one of the Yankees’ mighty men, was the batter.

PLAY: Alexander fanned Lazzeri on four pitched balls, then went on to hold the Yankees hitless two more innings as the Cardinals, won 3 to 2, winning the world championship, four games to three.

Found a nice 1961 Topps #420 of Ernie Broglio to go with my signed index card.
Broglio tied Warren Spahn in NL wins with 21 in 1960.
He passed away in 2019 at the age of 83.

You found a very rare card, maybe the only one known in existence. I believe the set is D351 Grennan Baking. It was made sometime in the 1930s. It's believed to be a 10 card set and not all of the cards are known. I've never seen that particular one before. They don't pop up much, so hard to tell what it's worth today.

Bought a shoebox of baseball cards at a garage sale for $5. Mixed in among a bunch of early 90s crap were these cards.

Great find! A playing day Mantle for $5 is a great steal!

I got two more cards for my 1951 Topps Red Back set, which is another playing card set like the 1968. Two other cards are upgrades. 40 down and 12 to go. Unfortunately I have some of the big names like Spahn, Berra, Irvin, and Feller left to get.

A few miscuts

I wasn't into poor registration...until I saw this one!

PSA-1 -- NM-MT, but with paper loss on back from being glued or taped to something.

Unfortunate I didn't get it before the back was ripped, but I still think it's the best PSA-1. The surface looked like it hadn't seen light in a long time and it was shiny...like new? Unlike other vintage cards I've handled from the mid 50s.

Picked up another Aaron today. Now have the '58T AS and '62T AS. Might just chase all his all star cards.

Agreed!

The second I saw the miscuts I thought of you. And the '71 Paul Silas...omg if ever there was a corndog card (but do you do basketball?). Ridiculous registration and miscut

I've been trying to grab up '71 and '72 basketball but it's slow going due to financial limitations. Love both of those sets!

Received my very first 1941 Play Ball in the mail today.
#67 of Walt Judnich.
Has some creases and a couple of spots but nicely centered and decent color. 83 years old and smells awesome!
Was able to get it for $2.50 with free S/H.

Great card, I'm glad I'm not the only one that smells the cards.

Couple of recent pick-ups. When I was a kid, Johnny Bench was recognized as the the best playing, then Fisk, Munson, Gary Carter. The '58 Mays tough to find with decent eye appeal, have never owned that one until now.

Not cards, but I did pick these up yesterday in a collection. The autographs are COAd by Scoreboard. Don't know anything about them, so will have to do some research. Will most likely take to JSA at the show July 4.

Would post that to net54. That last Ted Williams doesn't look right at all with the "T."

Oh I know. That's why I'm going to take them to JSA in Dallas in a couple of weeks.

Trying to get my Hank Aaron run going once again! Two raw purchases. Both are crease free and have great images of Hammerin' Hank. If there is a $12 special at SGC in the future I may grade them. Pretty content just putting them in a Zion Magpro for awhile. Have a raw 1966 Topps coming in the mail next week.

Edit: Another card in the mail today. Love the centering and another card with an amazing surface. Please avoid all raw cards on eBay.
