I am ride or die with Ohtani! He is my number 1 PC guy. I slowed my buying during last year and mainly just holding everything now. Its interesting my wife who does not follow baseball or Ohtani was like why do you keep on buying current players (I also PC Tatis Jr. and I am a huge, huge, huge Wander Franco bag holder). She is like you are just wasting your money!

I have about 600 total 2018 RC cards, mainly low end 2018 base RC cards and some more mid end RC cards (as well as a few higher end like 2018 Stadium club gold minted) and I am not selling! I am a long term hold. If I find any deals I am also a buyer!

I am fortunate enough that all my cards could go to zero and I can still sleep well at night as this is just a hobby for me (not a real investment).

What about you? I see that you are pretty active on the forums here so I assume you buy and sell cards to make money, not just for collecting.

I'm ride or die with Ohtani also but I came to the realization that I'll be content with 25 or so slabs of him. Anything beyond that just feels excessive given the size of my collection overall.

I don't really view these cards as an investment though, that's what my 401K and stocks are for. Its just nice to have some sweet cards of my favorite baseball player.

I certainly don't view my horde of Mariners cards as an investment. I'm almost certain all the Cal Raleigh autographs and numbered rookies I have will be worth pennies on the dollar when its all said and done but I buy 'em for the same reason I buy Ohtani.

…. and I’m a Coll-vestor / a hybrid of Collector and Investor. My cards ( Boxes ) I have feelings for like my wife or dog, but also track their financial success and sell if they fall down, and I don’t think they’re getting back up! This lets me sleep kinda’ well if things go to zero, instead of the full blown well you mention above.

This has honestly been one of the better buying opportunities in the last two years. Comps have dropped to reasonable levels and Ohtani hasn't done enough yet to create unreasonable hype that attracts fools with cash. Inventory is also decent since it's early in the year. This is an ideal time to buy if you're a collector. Prices are relatively fair but it could change in a few days with a string of homers. Really like how he's starting to put the ball in the air again

Have some really nice pieces on the way I'll post .

I agree, wasn't planning on adding too much during the season but have seen some nice deals I couldn't say no to this last week with all the "bad press"

After pressing our face against the glass and watching these cards for years, we're suckers for a good deal

I'll take his first triple on an otherwise miserably cold and anemic night.

I am worried about his mental health. I am also worried he will not match his hitting numbers from last year due to his routine being disrupted. Not worried about his character or his long term place in the hobby.

TBP is a purist collector. He doesn't duck, dive, dodge, and leap like some of us market timing collectors .

hahaha thank you Mayor!

thats the thing with collecting active players. hell, anyone that is breathing really can "let you down"

its all about a well rounded collection. to me, that means some of a LOT of players/people in the collection.

in time, you (the collector) will win some and lose some. at the end of your journey its all a wash, really

ETA: thats why i found that "How man Ohtani's do you own?" thread from a few weeks back really interesting. The amount of folks that answered 0 to 5 cards was facinating, i couldnt even tell you how many Ohtani's i own

I'm just completely turned off from ultra modern collecting currently, but I love the few Sho cards in my collection.

Like many BO members, I have smaller collections of Tatis and Wander that are now pushed three deep in my closet. Those experiences led me back to Ohtani since "character" has become such a necessary quality. Maybe it's because I understand the culture, but I have near-absolute confidence in his discipline to not take shortcuts. And if he does, that comes down to my miscalculation in judgement and I am fine going down with the ship. I have no clue how many Sho cards I own and it's irrelevant as long as they bring me joy.

I also appreciate the humility and consistency in this player thread. I'm sure we're surrounded by quite a few big guns like TBP and Khal but we generally opt for inclusion over condescension, which is a rarity at BO .

With all these inclusive sentiments going around I was hoping maybe some of you would share your 2018 Topps print run information with me
