Ohtani doesn't take direction from the FO, which is why they didn't shut him down weeks ago. Moreno is perfectly happy to let Ohtani destroy his body as long as it sells more tickets. The Angels are run like a circus, Ohtani is the main attraction.

...BUT who on his team is looking out for him? Where's the agent, family, friends, paid people? Someone needs to step in. They've already let it get out of hand.

The man wants to play baseball. He sacrificed well over $100 million coming to the MLB two years early which forced him into pre-arb+arb instead of starting at free agency. He just wants to play. He might not know if he needs surgery yet, and I'm quite sure you can still hit 6 months post TJ which would let him play the last month of the season and still start on Day 1 next season

There's nothing medically wrong with continuing to DH with a partially torn UCL

Angels fan here.

Shur down Ohtani for the year already. Yes, I get it he can still DH, but wouldn't resting him be better for his health? Forget baseball, I'm thinking his health long term, wouldn't rest be better?

Thanks for following up! That's a very strong sale after the news, love it!

not really

it's a matter of assessing the tear and deciding the path for surgery, so the only benefit is getting the surgery done sooner to recover sooner, but they haven't figured that out yet, so hitting shouldn't effect the injury much.

Love the red, congrats! Don’t worry about the news, Ohtani will be just fine.

Dude just wanting to play can arguably be why he has a torn UCL (again). SAVE HIM FROM HIMSELF! It's not hard.

Also...one minute I hear he doesn't care about the money but now he's playing because of $100M risk. The guy is going to sign for $500M+ 2 months from now. Lol

Man, wish there was a feature to block seeing members you have blocked from seeing their nonsense be quoted. Talk about next level forum features.

I still think he takes an NBA style 4 year deal with an insane AAV and player options. He saw first hand what happened to Pujols and Trout after they signed huge deals.

Yep. I hate how some people just can't help themselves from responding which makes me see all the people I blocked.

Long-term this is a minor bump in the road, but it has created a bear market on Ohtani (and with Ohtani goes the entire hobby). I have been buying 40-50 cents on the dollar since the injury was announced and I continue to accumulate. There are 6-12 months or more of dead money on this guy, basically there's nothing that will drive his cards higher until he (1) throws a pitch or (2) wins a World Series.

There has to be a little bump in his cards once the free agency talks really get moving and a new team is decided (especially if its a real contender as we all predict), right?

Pretty telling when the entire stadium boos the home team for all those intentional Sho walks. Unprecedented star power and likability.
