certainly best to focus on what you were able to hang on to.

The telltale signs of the pandemic are the slabbed prizm basketball cards of mediocre at best rookies.

Definitely and what is good is that I was a heavy buyer in that time period so there are always pleasant memories.

I do wonder how many of these recent all time highs are going to collectors and how many are going to people just hoping to sell them for a higher price in the near term.

In any case, being a "bag-holder" on a SP/#'ed Ohtani doesn't honestly seem too risky to me.

Base on the other hand? Buyer beware.

the beautiful thing about Ohtani is that there is a card for every budget

Yep what’s funny is remember when leaf was putting one graded card in those mystery boxes and it was always one of those bccg 10 Ohtani cards from the 5 card set I have a few but I was lucky to hit a pink numbered to 10 and a blue numbered to 50 the pink is on eBay at a stupid price only because of the low print run. The blue is more aesthetically pleasing as it is card number 1 in the set from the press conference numbered 05/50.

Little Khal, that card in a 10 would go for more than a raw or 9 Red Sapphire. You are late to the Ohtani train, I understand

Probably be able to buy a minor league team for what Ohtani will get.

We are definitely at or near peak prices for the season barring a 63 HR season. Hype cycle can’t get any higher and we are right near the all star break. I’ve seen this movie before. Buying right now vs a month from now is lighting money on fire

True the only thing right now other than getting to 63 home runs is if the Angels make a playoff run and Ohtani is a big contributor.

Prices will go higher when the investors in basketball/football realize the best spent money is on Ohtani!

The price discrepancy between 9 and 10 is just silly in most cases. Only exceptions being very rare and/or condition sensitive cards. I hope the 9's start creeping up at some point, especially as the Ohtani supply dries up.

Offseason contract will likely propel prices higher depending on how it correlates with ST start.

The comparison being Mahomes, after SB #1, there was marginal price increases with a slow rise through July until he signed his big contract which spiked prices even higher going into the preseason.

Different timing in 2023 but rare will continue to be gobbled up pushing prices higher.

He's basically hitting like 2001 and pitching better than 2001. Big key will be if he trails off in second half.

99% he's not going to replicate his June numbers for the rest of the season.

This is baseball and he's playing against other professional athletes.

But we should all enjoy the ride while it lasts.

Long term, we will probably not see another player like him in our lifetimes. How many other players/prospects are even being developed as two-way players?

I mean it took 100+ years to see one like him after Ruth
