Have really wanted to buy some Burrow the last few months, but can’t get over him being a 2020er. The amount of cards all the 2019+ guys have is just stupid. Even sticking to the basics, his Contenders isn’t SP, has two variations, and each has 150+ parallels. He probably has 250+ shield and logo 1/1 RPAs. It’s ridiculous.

No matter what he accomplishes, I don’t feel comfortable that his market has a long-term upward trajectory. That’s going to require hobby expansion, which I think is a long shot any time soon.

It’s wild that if the Bengals do win the Super Bowl this year, that Burrow would have beaten
Mahomes twice (would make 4-0 vs Patty)
Allen
Brady
If SF wins - Purdy will have led his team to 8 in a row getting to the SB and is a rookie sensation.
If PHI wins - Hurts who has had a career year and a PHI team that was at one point undefeated.
Burrow will have also beaten both #1 seeds in the NFC and AFC back to back if he beats KC then beats PHI in the SB.

One last fun fact is that if Burrow wins the SB he will have beaten the past 6 teams that won the Super Bowl since PHI won in 2017, and the past 3 QBs who won it in the same season (Brady 3x SBs, Mahomes and Stafford 1 each).

I share similar thoughts as well. I wanted to buy one of his RPA last year but decided against it. There are so many patch autos and none of them are player worn or game used (The enclosed memorabilia is not from any specific game or event). Does anyone know how many Burrow RC autos (patch and non-patch) exist? Mahomes likely has around 3000 On-Card RC Auto's (patch and non-patch).

Hopefully Taylor learns a bit from his missteps. I think the Bengals are still going to take the AFCN, probably running away towards the final 5-6 games and can easily challenge the top teams in the AFC. This is still a really good team.

Being this high on Burrow and the Bengals since early in the season makes me feel a little dirty yo be honest.

This thread has been a fun read back though. Mahomies flooding the place early should have been another flag that Burrow is legit.

Goes into snowy Buffalo (with Hamlin at the game), and just walks all over the Bills as 6-point dogs. This guy is something else...so is that defense.

The defense is scary because it really doesn’t have a player that you can scheme for to just take out of the game and make it more manageable. A ton of really good players at every level.

What lol? This feels like an indirect attempt to bash anyone that is not Patty.

Surely you understand total supply does not matter when it comes to rare rare.

They could've made 20,000,000 Burrow cards.

If he plays well are his gold prizms going to keep climbing? Yup.

Paying 100k for an rpa Patty threw on for 3 seconds but refusing to buy the Burrow equivalent because he never slipped it on in a conference room is wild.

Also feels like yet another indirect bashing of anyone who is not Patty, although credit for being less indirect.

It’s hurts to agree with a Bengals fan but there is no difference between a Mahomes event worn RPA and a Burrow event worn RPA. In fact I will die on the hill that the NT RPA is the most overhyped and risky card in modern cards.

There are still plenty of good choices in 2020 outside of the bloated, overproduced crap.

Lebron had millions of rookie cards made - his stuff still went up.

The cream will always rise to the top - it’s up to you to decide which burrow card will ultimately be amongst the most coveted by the deep pockets.

What is the risk to reward at current prices? Are you comfortable buying Mahomes, Burrow and Allen RPA's at current prices? I am not because I do not like the risk to reward even after the significant market correction.

Numbered hardsigned Auto in PSA 10… That is what I went for as I feel it will always be desirable

Rogue browns fan with JB love. Don't you think I've forgot about our Myles/Watt battle, pal!

Very high v very low.

Fully agree there but market state v material verbiage are two different discussions.

Your point was the material verbiage...if it were April (or earliest playoff hype wears off) and we eliminate any macro factors influencing the card market for the conversation, I don't think the difference of player worn and not worn should hold you back from snagging a NT or two.

Obv agree with him having much more cardboard out there than Patty but that's why you're buying the NT.

I lump all you Ohio fans into the same bucket, my bad.

But now it feels even weirder. Agreeing with a Browns fan over a Burrow argument.

Apocalypse time.

LeBron’s market was stagnant for a decade after his debut. You could get an Exquisite /99 for $7100 in summer 2012 after opening at $5k (IIRC). A BGS 9 TC Gold went from $635 at release to $1356 in winter 2011.

The entry is so much higher today, and Burrow has far more cards than LeBron. How many hundreds (or thousands) of 1/1s does Burrow have? If I was buying, I would stick to the basics. Prizm Gold or better, base NT /99 or /10, Contenders Cracked Ice. But at those prices, money is better spent elsewhere IMO.

I always wanted and still want a Burrows Contenders. But spending $3000-$5000 on that card is pretty steep in you think about. How much further can that card gain. I have winning 2-3 Super Bowls before his career ends. I think this guy is that good. I project $13,000-$20,000 in 10 years. How is that a good investment?

There was a nice window of opportunity that some people have missed- which was after he torn his acl/mcl during his rookie year. Bengals made little improvement in the off-season too which scared a lot of investors so some of his cards flew under the radar for a bit. Any price you pay now pose is a high risk.

He would need a minimum of 1 Superbowl, SB MVP and an MVP before he reach 30 to justify the current prices, imo.

I would like to personally thank Urban Meyer and the great OSU football coaches for choosing Dwayne Haskins over Burrow. Without your stellar scouting and expertise LSU wouldn’t have an undefeated Natty and Burrow would have remained just another under developed Buckeye QB.

Truly appreciated

his prices are already booked for 3-5 superbowls lmfao be lucky to even win one another jim kelly I say. The winner of superbowl will come from NFC Bengals has back up offensive linemen the bills defensive is garbage with there qb josh allen too. So over rated that team was.

Anyone know what jim kelly prices would been if played doing this era and been to 4 st8 superbowls. LMFAO prices be falling in do time when more people leaves hobby as to expesnive and monopoly garbage company coming to town.

This isn't a hobby anymore its how much I can make off of suckers and noobs.

There are really only 4 reasons to participate in the football side of the card hobby...

1) You love football, like cards and don't care about the bad $$$ side of the hobby
2) You actually "collect" your team and/or favorite player(s)
3) You're in it to profit off the week-by-week highs and lows
4) You're looking for good long term holds

I, personally, dabble in all four... but when it comes to Number 4, Joe Burrow is the only current NFL youngster that fits the bill. Not Mahomes (that ship has sailed), not Herbert, not Allen, maybe Lawrence (but I have many doubts)... just Burrow!!

Given that Dwayne Haskins had the single greatest passing season for a QB in Big Ten history (and Burrow is still a great alumni ambassador for the Buckeyes), I think that's a scenario that worked out well for both sides.

Yes, but those with short term outlooks are not one bit concerned. If he wins the bowl looking good then it's insti-profit for those folks. Disclosure: I have none.

Strongly agree with the high buy in these days as the baseball prospecting mentality has arrived to football with a force since 2019. One could have stock piled Cam Newton rookies for chump change and unloaded for big profit when he was hot. Tom Brady cards didn't get the massive spike until after his 5th ring. Burrow was never cheap. I remember his LSU Score card fetching $8 right off the bat. Add in far more gem copies being well preserved in slabs and it's very fair to question the long term potential of his cards. Again, this is not relevant for short-term flippers.

All that said, I remember scoffing at $20 for a Mike Trout 2011 Topps Update thinking much the same. Oops.

When he was injured, i picked up a psa 7 panini one /10 for $600. I cracked it and have it sitting here gathering my admiration.

One is enough and will hopefully be the cornerstone of my budget collection

Yeah...I have his 2020 Select Black Finite RPA 1/1 (the horizontal one that most people like) and I can't even get 12k for it. I bought it for 20k last year before the Super Bowl lol. Very weird market.
