I just rewatched the replay of his homer from last night and I love it even more today. If you haven’t seen the video of the full AB I’d encourage you to check it out
He tries to hit the 0-1 pitch the moon and comes up empty. Steps out of the box, hits himself on the head, and takes a few opposite field swings. Very next pitch he hits an opposite field HR I think it’s those pitch-by-pitch adjustments as a 23 year old that make him so special |

), I don't know what to say. I get a laugh out of it every time. It's embarrassing for him and there's a reason I don't block him and respond in the way I do. One of us rages with "insults" everytime, the other blows him kisses back in response ![]() Very aware of how many perceive the way I post. As I said before, I think it's absurd that anyone has such a personal reaction to me arguing baseball stats. That is too nuts to me. It's a baseball card forum. I've never once, in 3 years here, felt personally offended, insulted, or got actually mad at *any* post I've seen. And I've definitely been personally insulted hundreds of times on here by at least 50 different people. It's a card forum lol, who the hell cares Last edited by BBases31; 08-31-2022 at 09:41 AM. |

what impressed me the most about his home run was that he was sitting with an 0-2 count. instead of attacking the ball with a favourable count, he went with the pitch and flicked it oppo poppo. love to see it!
the magic of tv caught two moments that i found significant. the first was a replay of Vlad out of the box telling himself to stay focused on hitting towards center and not pull the ball right after going down 0-2 in the count. the second moment was Bo and Vlad in the dugout after the home run and it looked like Bo (to the audience and announcers) was quietly pumping his buddy up telling him he's THAT good at the plate to do what he just pulled off. on top of that, Baseball America handed out ballots to managers, coaches, scouts, and front office executives and Vlad was voted for his GLOVE. watching my fair share of games, I've always marveled at his transition across the diamond and how solid he's become at the position from a defensive standpoint. he's got soft hands, a rocket arm and a field IQ to match. my jaw dropped the first time i saw Vlad drop down into the splits. this kid wants to excel and he's putting in the work to do just that! Vlad is still a kid at 23 years young. he's still learning the game after whipping through the minors as a titanic prospect. he's never faced adversity until he reached a league full of the sports' very best prospects. he's very much aware of milestones like 3,000 hits (making a joke with Espinal about needed 2.500 more after getting #500) and his drive and grounded personality (no drama with this kid) can only aid him towards reaching such a goal. i think the best is still to come with Vlad with the blessings of the baseball gods to continue to stay remarkably healthy. i think he can remain healthy playing a position that isn't as demanding on the body as outfield like his pops (artificial turf destroyed Vlad sr) and he's avoided the IL so far unlike his horsemen Acuna, Soto, and Tatis. having such extraordinary expectations can really hurt a player like Vlad Jr. where his pops is a Hall of Famer...go look at Sr's resume! Vlad Jr was a known prospect since the day he signed a pro contract. if Vlad averages .280/30/90 for his career, is that bad? what are we expecting him to do? is he as bad as his rookie and covid seasons? i think we can safely say no. is he 2021 Vlad or 2022 Vlad moving forward? if 2022 is his floor then i'm here for all of it. i'm done collecting him into my PC. my head can't justify picking up cards that i have already acquired for pennies on the dollar...actually, entirely from flipping profits. i have nothing high end but a modest stack of 1sts, RCs, SPs, and #'d cards etc to satisfy my collecting heart. over the years, i'll add more cards on the cheap since the hobby doesn't care for anything without a 1st or RC logo on it. i'm simply enjoying the ride as a baseball fan first, a fantasy guy (he's in both my dynasty leagues) second, and a hobbyist last but certainly not least. there's nothing wrong with enjoying a player and collecting his cards. we revel in a player's success and find common ground with like-minded fans by entering this thread. i can count the number of people i personally know in this hobby on Homer Simpson's hand. most people still look at my cockeyed when i admit (with more confidence these days) that i collect pictures of men on glossy cardboard. this is why i enjoy the community like IG or lurk the forum here so that i can feel like i'm not alone. are contrarians allowed? SURE. but one of the biggest draws about this hobby is that it's a way to escape the grind of everyday life and love what i collect. don't yuck my yum. |

Good morning, Vlad Thread. What did I miss?
From the looks of things, it seems like everyone might still be bent about some troll…? I wouldn’t know, though, because I IGNORE HIM!!! I Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

It appears that the main thing that’s holding Vlad back from being at that Pujols/Miggy/ManRam level is that he’s not going with outside pitches enough. Instead, he seems to be trying to pull, which is contributing to the high groundball rate. And this, I assume, is due to pressure he’s putting on himself to produce.
That said, he’s still one of the top 10 or 15 producers this year, so it’s not like he’s forgotten how to hit. And being 23, it’s not surprising that there is still some room for improvement regarding approach and calming his mind. That home run last night is a great example of what he can and should do, rather than grounding out up the middle. Of course, pitch location also factors in, as he handles high pitches a lot better than low pitches. All this is said in the relative context that he’s still one of the best, but there is still some improvement to become the league’s most devastating hitter year after year. (The same can be argued for Soto, too.) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Let’s hope that pep talk pays off. Same for Bichette…instead of trying to park everything, make contact.

I was trying to find the clip, but Buck Martinez was literally saying this as it was happening. He saw Vlad tell himself not to pull the ball and then proceeded to say something to the affect of "when he hits the ball the opposite way in the air, good things happen" and I'll be damned if it took less than 10 seconds for it to happen. Good ol' Buck "Nostradamus" Martinez. |

Noticed that too, he almost "called it" based on his practice swing and where is starring when he does. I looked at my buddy and said that was some Babe Ruth stuff right there

That is a horrendous example and no way that’s a real Probstein sale.. Description is for a 2021 Mac Jones as well

Yeah, that’s a little suspect. I have a Mother’s Day PSA 9 sitting at $450. I don’t know that the Meijer should demand $340 more. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

The card fits in the Vlad Jr. market… no? I’ll agree that it may be an outlier for the bigger trend, but that only makes it a bad example for those saying that the market is suffering. It would be a good example for anyone saying that the market is strong. To your second point, I noted that the description didn’t match the card too. So that means that the buyer will never receive the card via this sale, right? Description says Mac Jones… so eBay’s process will not permit the card to be sent to the seller. Is that true? |
