That was Wilt against the knicks in Hersey, PA.

Sad to hear that news. I loved to see his interactions with players at the all-star games and the finals. It was great to see the current players showing respect for an icon.

Oh, I know. Hence the long sigh. As he was saying it, I kept waiting for someone to correct him.

The blessing is that he was able to enjoy his flowers for as long as many of us have been alive. Very few players can have players and fans in awe like Russell

One of my favorite pieces in my collection. It was always awesome to see him at NBA events whether it was All Star Weekend or the Finals. Bummed we've lost such a major Icon in this sport

I suppose like with Magic-Larry before that it was Rusell-Wilt just in a different way, but they were like paired icons of the sport defining their times.

This was the amazing thing about him that I grew to respect over the years. Despite everything he went through, he always seemed to try to enjoy, take the higher road and not let others bring him down.

Pioneer. Love the recent Photogenic Respect card with him and Shaq. Every player who was at least decent always treated him with respect.

So saddened by this. I knew it was coming but it still hurts.

I learned of it via the reply to a message of mine sent to a mate in May, telling him I'd just bought a Russell auto because it was beautiful and I feared he wouldn't be with us much longer.

Guy was not only an absolute champ, but he had to deal with crazy race issues and also coached. Amazing life and story, still somewhat underappreciated.

And between when I went to bed and now, there are suddenly 27 new Russell autos listed on eBay

Hits me.

There's no one in sports I respect more. Admirable off the court yes, but one of the on-court basketball minds in history.
