I think all these grading companies have a place right now and hopefully in the future. I for one am excited about 2023 when I can grade with what I actually find important. My top two things I want in a grading company is fair pricing and great turnaround time. I think $30 a card is way too expensive, even for a $500 card. Once grading is $8 to $15, I will be grading again. Until then, I am just waiting it out. Having options is great and I think even PSA fans should want CSG/SGC/BGS to succeed. The more people that use these other companies, the cheaper PSA will become with better turnaround times. Heck, HGA would be a good option at $10 if they had good turnaround time. However, they can't make a profit at $25 a card, so when grading becomes cheaper they will be out of business.

Everyone should be excited! Cheap grading with quick turnaround times will be the normal soon enough. PSA/SGC/BGS/CSG will be the only survivors because they can actually make a profit grading at $6 to $8 a card. Yes, it will be that cheap. Once the PSA backlog is done, the power will be given to us collectors to make the choices.

I totally agree! There is value added to cards by grading and getting a 9 on a grade should not mean a loss. Currently with ultra modern cards, a significant part of the backlog, it is a loss.

Especially a CSG 9. Given their high standards, I'm actually hoping they're the company that makes mint great again.

I think with having a 9.5 now, we will see how the POP reports change. I went through POP reports of cards and even though getting a CSG 9.5 was tougher than a SGC 10 and way tougher than a PSA 10. However, once you got lower CSG was really the same grading company and not any tougher than PSA. By the time you got to grades of 8, PSA was actually more strict.

I do trust CSG's modern grading and think it is a great option. Would much rather have CSG grade modern cards for me over SGC. With vintage, I won't touch CSG until they grade more accurately and show this over time.

Not going to say your wrong,i just do not share your optimism on how low it gets,id be happy with $12 bulk to be honest.Personally i think it bottoms out at $15 for PSA and SGC,CSG is already $12 for bulk they may get to $10 but only if they dry up and absolutely have to go that low.BGS dont know dont care.

A year ago i said SGC would never get to #2,they were a vintage grader and that is where it would stay,Well that didnt age to well their now #2 by most accounts,so i could be wrong about the low price point for grading (and be happy to be wrong).

Yeah, I don't see any way anyone is back at $8 ever again. PSA was at $9 before the explosion on their cheapest tier (gaming), CGC was at $8 and is now at $15 on bulk. Keep in mind versus 2020/early 2021 pricing there's going to be at least 10% increases just from overall cost inflation.

I'd be shocked if anyone besides CGC/CSG is sub $15 ever again and I think $15 is a pretty good bedrock assumption to use when thinking about pricing. If it's only worth grading at $8-$10, just assume it's never going to be worth grading.

BGS is making a big push to get back into the game and is putting some serious investments. Right now PSA/BGS/SGC/CSG is accepting roughly 320,000 cards a month and grading all of them relatively quickly. We will probably have the capacity for almost 5x's that in 6 months. If this was 2021 February, of course people would grade everything they have. With the current prices of cards, people won't be submitting utter crap again. The question will be how many people will crack SGC/CSG and other slabs to submit to PSA. If we get another boom when PSA opens up, things could get crazy for a few months. However, I think that those days are done.

I have said this before, but the monthly grading capacity is the most interesting thing going forward. We have had two years of massive shifting around in the market place with the covid boom and BGS/PSA shutting down. The "real" market hasn't settled and won't until everybody is caught up and churing out subs in 30-45 days. What is the market cap for grading cards per month. 1.5 million? 2 million? less? I know we are in a full scale 80's over prodcution era (even if some don't want to admit it), but there still is a limit on how many cards are getting graded. Only so many rookies and short printed/inserts of HOFers. I think the days of getting an entire set graded is gone at least for modern sets.

As soon as, the market gets settled in, Fanatics may turn things upside down again. Although I think it is more likely, they will just keep things largely the way it is and let Topps do their thing.

So my standard order is on its way back to me, while my bulk order received 11 days earlier is still in grading/QC.

Sent 3/25
Received 3/29
Shipped 4/11

28 card order-

9x CSG 10s
11x CSG 9.5s
6x CSG 9s

and then 2 CSG 8.5s because the surface scores got destroyed on 2021 BB aqua lavas with the print lines. I wanted to see how CSG treated them vs PSA. If I sent them to PSA they are probably gem 10s. That was the only flaw on the cards.

For CSG to aware nine 10s and eleven 9.5s on 28 cards definitely means they've rescaled their entire grading system for sure.

That's a 32% Gem rate. I had 40% Gem rate on my first order with them back in March 2021. I don't think they changed anything. Remember, the 9.5s are just Mint+ right now. Those can actually function as a pop control like they do for SGC.

Well, keep in mind that I sent 2 as a "what the heck" to see how they would treat the giant print lines on aqua lavas in 21 BB (8.5s). So more like 34%. And there was a red bowman auto /5 in there that I sent knowing it would get dinged on surface too, just wanted it slabbed to go with my super/black wave/other reds (9). So that's 36%. But there were 25 cards in the sub that I really thought should have been 10s, saw zero flaws.

I think they will be more generous with issuing 9.5s and a little more strict on 10s. But collectors will want to see all 9.5s and 10s and for the most part, that's what I got.

Haven't seen the new label in-hand yet, should have them by Tuesday.

I think the crew at CSG are making some great moves, and after dealing with BGS and PSA bulk subs in the past, they are by far my favorite grading company to submit to. If they start handing out 9.5s and 10s like free candy (like another company) they will be on the fast track.

I think it's fairly safe to say once PSA opens up bulk there will be a fair amount of cracking.the BGS thing really holds no interest for me personally (i agree that it matters to the hobby as a whole though),BGS for me is just needed for Star basketball and most all i have is already graded.

CSG to me is the wildcard,Do they gain market share?their not going away no matter what happens, they have deep pockets.with the E bay thing and the fanatics thing,$12 bulk........they have all they need to go as far as the market allows them to.

Lastly while i agree at the current cost to grade it "should" keep guys from grading crap.......but.........well i wont say it.

I know it’s a small sample but I came across this after searching if CSG is soft on vintage.

https://youtu.be/yLnMG578Pjg

Any thoughts?

CSG is soft on vintage. However, I said this before, it happens under grades of 7. Under 7, CSG falls way behind. Most vintage cards are not in 8 condition. If you look at a CSG 4.5 versus a SGC 4.5, you will see the difference.

Said it before so a little dead horse beating,CSG is more of a BVG vintage grader.given the guys heading up CSG it should be no surprise,BVG is well known for softer vintage grading.I have several CSG 8's that would grade at least a full grade lower at SGC.So while i agree with Dan,i would say 8 and below its noticeable, the lower the grade the more it shows for sure.

There is a new you tube video just put out with reps from PSA,BGS,SGC,CSG in the q and a part the question was asked that it seems standards have tightened up,PSA,BGS reps both basically said its just a perception because people are sending more lesser condition cards,Peter (SGC) freely admitted thats it true saying "grading has evolved" and "much more weight is being given to centering".

Yeah I've reached out about why mine has not been input and silence on their end. The reholder was entered but the bulk still hasn't been. I just hope it's not lost, has anyone ever had CSG lose their order?

Just sent 52 cards in to get re-slabbed. Curious to see the turnaround.
