I like the PMGs to be honest. I remember a few years back looking at one of the Marvel metal releases sitting on BO forever on clearance by the case. I need to find that time machine.

Hideous, hideous beasts.

they're nice enough, but imo they are not "must have" cards

push product vibe

I'll take a /99 OPC Platinum Arctic Freeze over a PMG any day. PMG have the history to them and that's cool but don't think it warrants such a premium compared to basically every other /99 parallel.

Gold Retro Crosby is at $85k with 10 days left at Goldin. Wow. I never thought that kind of money for 2020 PMG.

It's all about history, and it being a 1/1.
A Jordan PMG/10 sold for over 900K. Personally I think it is cool hockey cards are catching up to the other sports. Adds more interest plus the excitement of pulling a card that you could pay your mortgage off with.

I totally agree. Hockey has lagged behind other major sports, but with the new ESPN contract and younger flashy players, more people are tuning in.

Counterpoint to that, PMGs don't really have any history in hockey. They've only been around since 2014(?) I believe and this recent set was the first time Metal cards were actually base cards and not just inserts. I feel like a lot of the people bidding up PMGs to crazy amounts are people coming in from other sports and trying to test the hockey market. Which they're free to do, but I feel like these prices could be very volatile long term.

2012 not 2014.

Let me start by saying, this never happens to me ... so this is a first.

Most of my collection is organized in boxes by sport and player. I routinely look through the boxes to look at the cards and see if I have any "hidden gems" that I may have previously overlooked. Plus, I usually label the back of the holder with an estimated price in case anything ever happens to me and my wife wants to sell my collection.

I was looking through my Alex Ovechkin box this weekend and came across these two cards. I had not priced them in over two years, so they were labeled with $10 and $12.

Neither are mint, but I think they are still very nice to look at.

I pulled the trigger on a Lafreniere Retro Green PMG. Made an offer, only half-serious, not thinking it would get accepted, but it was. Hopefully, he keeps improving.

Someone is has bid it up to 98,400.00 with the buyer premiums. Will be fun to see where it ends.

Well I must be high because I just won a PMG Blue Marner RC for $420.
That is the 3rd most $ I've ever paid for a card but since it's an RC-PMG of a major market star it seems like a bargain...maybe? lol

Ended at 164,400.00

I wonder if even at that price it will turn out to be a good investment?
