Let's try again.

When these were released, I was living in the dorm without a car. I rode a bus to a Valley Bank out Kingston Pike to get this set.

Having seen Alabama go through years in the wilderness looking for a coach who was just like Bear Bryant, I hope Tennessee isn't falling into the same trap by trying to recreate Pat Summitt.

Those are awesome...and old school! I agree with you on the coaching situation. It's nice to have ties to the great coaches, but is nearly impossible to live up to the standard, as Holly proved. Hopefully Coach Harper can get the LV back on track and we can avoid any Mike Dubose/ Mike Price type issues.

$25million a year in rights. They are making moves. We had a girl ay my hs who went and played d1, which I thought was really cool since we were a pretty small school.

Pat Head would have been a terrible name to have in middle school in the 80s/90s. haha

This article from the Knoxville News-Sentinel in March, 1981 mentions that the cards were featured on the cover of Sports Collectors Digest.

Does anyone have that issue? I'd love to get a scan of the cover and any article about them.

Found this quick photo online, looks like it was on the back of SCD.

Very cool to see these! I got my master's degree at UT and was in the LV pep band- my first year was Candace Parker's last and their last title. We flew on the same charter as them to the sweet 16 games and final 4 games in Tampa. Coach Summitt came back and talked to us for like 10 minutes on each flight. Pretty surreal experience honestly. Shame to have seen such a proud, dynastic program fall for awhile but glad they're making a push again!

@stevebay -- thanks!

Way back when I still had a subscription, sometime in the 1990s, one of the columnists (Bob Lemke?) had an article about the cards.

I'd love to be able to get a scanned searchable archive of SCD. There's just so much information buried in it.
