You're acting like the Angels have a stable of pitchers they have left for the rest of the season. They're literally down to Ohtani/Suarez/Barria. Alex Cobb is still working his way back from injury. Detmers has to build himself up after being quarantined with covid. Dylan Bundy probably won't pitch again this season, not sure what his injury was but his last start was dreadful? If Chris Rodriguez comes back, it will be as a reliever. Packy Naughton and Janson Junk can make a spot start here or there.

I think his point is that it would benefit the Angels to conserve Ohtani for next year and shut him down and put him back in the toy chest. I think the point you're making is that it just isn't practical and that's not how things work in professional sports.

Are you saying that they literally would not have enough arms to finish the season if Ohtani were to not pitch again?

Hasnt really played well the past 2 months..

I liked the post of MIP- MOST INTERTESTING PLAYER..
Did he not hit a HR and walk twice tonight? His pitching was crap tonight but let's not act like he's a liability out there.

Yes. They have 3 healthy arms. They have 21 games left. They're not just going to keep throwing Double-A and Triple-A guys out there to "preserve" Ohtani for next season.

So they do have arms on the 40-man.

None of the results going forward matter. The season is over.

Thought that there might be something here:

IP ERA
2021 Home 63.1 1.99
2021 Away 52.0 5.02

He has 9 wins and 44 home runs. Both are extremely close.

I meant that one of [10 wins & 50 HRs] was close to the 2021 goals Ohtani mentioned in an interview last February...

Classic Angels. They don't have a single starter this year with enough innings to qualify for the ERA standings. And they even had fired their head of training in the offseason. It's a miracle Ohtani has stayed healthy. He must be doing his own routine over there

A very good rewatch, in light of his career season:

I haven't seen this before. Thank you for posting.

I love players that seem humble and approachable. He's going to be one of the biggest names the game has ever seen and he appears as though he's a teenager having fun. I'm sure he battles the pressure just like everyone else, but man he is a master at hiding it.

A US1 PSA 10 Update Black finished at 9k last week and that bidding looked legitimate. Today a S2 PSA 10 Black goes for only 4300. The last S2 PSA 10 Black that sold earlier in the season went for what looked like too little as well. Maybe the Update parallels are winning out?

One factor could be the photoshopped image on the S2. I have some chrome stuff with the airbrushed photo but when I was actively picking his stuff up I know I shied away from them. It’s one of the main reasons I like his New Era card so much.

I've been curious about this as well. I wonder if the pedigree of 2018 Topps Update vs S2 has anything to do with it? IMO, from an image perspective they are both equal (granted one is photoshopped).

It's going to be interesting watching it play out over the next few years.

Ohtani's 2nd half home run total is a real disappointment -- only 11 compared to 33 the 1st half. It's reminiscent of Reggie Jackson's 1969 season, where he hit 37 the 1st half and only 10 the 2nd half.

The away ERA is high mostly because of the ugly 1st inning in New York and the recent start in Houston. Other than that, he's been good on the road.

Hopefully he turns down the HRD next year.

They pitch around him because of the supporting cast, but he is still the MVP regardless and although Vlad has great numbers, he is not the lead story on a regular basis. Baseball knows who the MVP is. Only these boards argue about that.

Ohtani has a share of the HR lead in September. Nothing about this sucks!
