True, can definitely hurt innovation. Probably not too much innovation potential at risk with cardboard at this point though.

For all the people picking the player's side in the cba, remember neither they nor the owners care about you. They don't even care if the hobby stays relevant, they got their money.

Who's starting the GoFundMe for Topps?

As I see it, unless Topps comes to some kind of an arrangement with Fanatics, 2022 would be the last year of Topps cards with player names and images.

What I meant with the franchise program is why go through the hassle of buying retail space and having to start from scratch everywhere when you can just have the existing shops make some adjustments. Not sure that Fanatics is looking to get into the actual card shop business, the buying and selling of singles and supplies. But make the shops sign a royalty agreement on sealed products and have so much Fanatics displays in the building.

Most likely, but also, color variants dont cost much more than a penny as it is.

Or, Fanatics just keeps the cards in their existing shops, maybe adds "Lidz" and doesn't have to deal with royalties or anything and keeps 100% profit at home.

Most cards sold online, you think bots were bad before....

They'll make the LCS owners a crap deal and some will take it because they'll have no choice.

Haven't read the thread ....

Worst part about this IMO is how much Topps is just going to mail it in until they're done.

This is true. Topps execs hear MLB execs have equity stakes in Fanatics, see the shady shameful corrupt underhanded deal that went down today coming, and knew they needed to get what they could get for their shares before today happened.

And we are all what you call "bag holders". Sigh.

2 years without fully licensed cards could also sink the baseball card hobby.

When the market boomed and Topps decided to go the IPO route they snubbed Fanatics thinking that their license with MLB was a foregone conclusion. Topps execs getting greedy for IPO money. Now they don't have a pot to you know what in or a window to throw it out of.

Reading an interesting bit elsewhere about how if Topps is sunk in 2022 money will flow to Hockey, Football, and Basketball.

I disagree, but there are some good points.

Topps is the new tobacco cards....

When everyone reading this has been buried in the ground for at least 80-100 years. Our great, great, great grandkids will be looking at all the Topps cards like we do Tobacco cards.

Sad!

Get ready boyzzzzzz

Silly RPA rookies are gonna be in baseball. I don't get why all the football and basketball guys love RPAs...none are game worn.

Player puts on overly large jersey, takes it off, it gets cut up.

Baseball was spared from that so far. I bet Fanatics will do MLB RPAs out the wazooo...
