They've already filed for trademarks for this product.
It's a combination of Fanatics and Heritage - 2026 Fanatics Heretics. Look for devilishly good inserts like "On Fire," "What's At Stake" and 1 per case "Schism" inserts. Chase the rare Hellfire and Unorthodox parallels. It's going to be HOT!!!

They will cater to the flippers though there does need to be some buyer at the end of the chain. It will be fascinating what they do, but for all those hoping they buy all the topps brands and keep their releases, I got bad news for you. They'll play off your addiction and expect you to buy whatever they make.

Just saw this news. Still not wrapping my head around it completely. As long as I still get my 2022 Series 1 Wander Franco "RC" Logo's is how far I'm thinking ahead at this time. Weird stuff.

And Fanatics hasn't been in the actual card business. Not sure how they licenses are worded, but is there an outside chance that Fanatics could work with both Panini and Topps to make licensed products? |

Who misses the good ol' days of 19 months ago when this great little hobby of ours wasn't a complicated mess? This one stings.

Topps will be fine, they'll focus on licences for global sports like soccer and F1 which they keep expanding. I believe their single biggest selling global line is already one of those products. I know they've won the rights to more soccer tournaments too, they will take over the European championships from Panini from 2024.

I could see Fanatics buying out Topps, UD, and Panini and consolidating all the rights under one roof. Access to every player with little difficulty, each established card brand as well and acquiring all the rights first lowers the purchase price for the remaining shells of each company. You could have chrome, National treasures, etc across every sport with a regular product line for each. Fanatics National Treasures, Fanatics Chrome, etc. They have no need for the infrastructures or personnel from these companies but the brands, “memorabilia” stockpiles, and exclusive player deals have tremendous value to a new brand and they understand that as well as anyone.

This is a good point. Imagine if Topps was already gone and Panini was making their same sets—but with team logos. That’s essentially what Fanatics will be like if it doesn’t acquire the Topps branding. They’d still have buyers, but the nostalgia side of baseball cards is crucial to retaining many hobbyists. Plus, this is what Panini did, buying Donruss. (And didn’t Upper Deck buy out Fleer at some point?) The path is slightly different, but the end result would be the same: some company acquires the intellectual property and infrastructure of an existing card manufacturer and continues to produce under the same brand name(s). The question now becomes Topps over the next 3-5 years. They'll have to sign individual contracts with players - which I thought they still did anyway - but the question of card quality, sets, existing stock in memorabilia and sticker autos, there's not much reason to invest in the future of their baseball lines.
If there's no sale, I can picture a very bad 5 year slow, lingering death. Fanatics can't want that as a lead in. |
