Yeah like I said, every team has some bad moves. Hell, remember just a few years ago when the White Sox traded Fernando Tatis Jr for James Shields? But I'm just gonna pick on a few of these-

I probably just know the Twins history better than I know other teams, but there are some things over my life that just didn’t make sense. Yes, hindsight is 20/20, but some of these are bad.
Carew should have been a Twins lifer, but the trade is entirely due to owner Calvin Griffith driving him out of town, for various reasons. Strangely, Carew in the last few years has entirely tried to backtrack on some of the comments he made about Griffith at the time, but it's clear this was a trade forced by Griffith burning the bridge

Yes we're bad this year, but that's largely because basically every single FA pitcher we signed has absolutely bombed. I really don't get this point at all

Massive disagree on this one too. If you're not going to shell out money for who was looking like legitimately one of the greatest catchers of all time, perennial MVP, not to mention the underlying storylines of being a MN born and raised guy, who are you ever going to shell out money for? You're really gonna let that guy walk? There's no way fans should ever complain about the contract prior to the concussions

We've offered huge amounts of money to Darvish and Wheeler the last few years, including offering MORE money to Wheeler than he took from Philly to be closer to his in laws. Donny was a plan C signing. At some point, sure, you either gotta make it happen or nothing else matters, but it's not for lack of trying or legit offers. If you're gonna make the best offer a player gets and they still turn it down, what else are you supposed to do?

Again the Twins have had their misses, but I think it's wayyyyy too hyper critical to summarize their last 40 years as being terrible management

Passan- The New York Mets are finalizing a deal to acquire starter Rich Hill from the Tampa Bay Rays, sources tell ESPN. @ByRobertMurray was on the news.

It is 1 team I wouldn't worry about losing a starter or 2. They are the current expert in the "Opener". They can throw out the whole team to pitch

I think that makes it more likely they'll keep using Patino and possibly Baz as openers / 3 - 4 inning guys.

It wouldn't be a successful trade deadline without an over the hill pitcher being acquired as help for an ailing rotation.

Hill is joining his 11th major league organization. But has only been traded once before in his career (August 1st, 2016 with Josh Reddick to the Dodgers for Frankie Montas, Jharel Cotton and Grant Holmes). 2014 was the only other season he appeared for two teams, but was released by the Angels before signing with the Yankees.

Just wild for a guy to play for 11 teams over 17 seasons, and only to have been traded once.

Rich Hill fun facts!!

From Age 36-41 - 571.1 IP, 110 G, 109 GS, 3.15 ERA, 47-25, 639 K, 193 BB, 1.10 WHIP, 129 ERA+

From Age 25-35 - 500 IP, 201 G, 74 GS, 4.54 ERA, 26-23, 487 K, 232 BB, 1.35 WHIP, 100 ERA+

Has any other pitcher ever found the fountain of youth more than this guy did?

Buxton turned down an extension. Not sure what that means to the trade deadline

If nothing else it means Twins’ fans won’t be able to see many more performances like he had today.

The Twins won’t get much for him right now. What incentive does a team have to give up anything significant for him right now? He is out for the rest of the year, had two injuries this year alone.

Yes, when he is healthy AND locked in he is one of the best in the game today. However, how often are both of those together with Buxton? Not very often in the last 5 years.

I think ultimately what will happen now, is Buxton will try and play the FA game and realize the Twins $80MM guaranteed money over 7 years plus incentives was better than anything else he can get. Then he will come back to the Twins and try and get the same deal, which will most likely not be there anymore.

I think he just bought himself into less money, maybe a bigger contract with incentives, but less guaranteed money, which is not good for him.

What did he do today? I didn’t see.

5 days to go. I think it will be a slow year overall. Few teams will want to let go of MLB ready Pitching and everyone needs MLB ready pitching. “Sellers” with no hopes of games in October won’t want to be forced to put their AA guys on an MLB mound just because injuries and 2020 related innings limits for their young guys ate up their rotation’s ability to cover September.

So the Tony Watsons of the game will be on the move as usual, for random handfuls of 3rd/4th year minor leaguers and mysterious higher round PTBNLs.

The Cubs will get a decent positional prospect for Kimbrel and that prospect’s Bowman investors will be thrilled.

In fantasy leagues, a random pair of owners somewhere will randomly enjoy a couple beers together and agree to trade the Dark Knight for Dylan Bundy, straight up, “just to see what happens” but MLB doesn’t work like that. So each will go somewhere for 5-10th round infielders now 24 years old and/or a 10-15th round junior college pitcher PTBNL.

Preller making moves

@JeffPassan
The San Diego Padres are acquiring second baseman/outfielder Adam Frazier from the Pittsburgh Pirates, sources tell ESPN.

Frazier, 29, leads baseball in hits this year and is not a free agent until after the 2022 season. One of the best bats on the trade market.

Nice pickup for the Padres depending on the return. It’s tough to find a guy that can flat out hit anymore. Really makes there team that much more well rounded.

Tucupita, Suwinski, & Michell Miliano to PIT per Rosenthal. Figured that Tucupita would be on the move. Could be interesting if he ever gets to more power. Have heard a lot about Suwinski lately since he is having a breakout season and probably one of the biggest risers in the system.

Plus less playing time for Hosmer hopefully

Preller still has chips left in his pot? Good lord. Someone needs to raid / hire away his scouts. Cherington has gotta be smarter than AAAA Pittsburgh’s last GM.

Would make too much sense for the Indians to trade Cesar Hernandez right now. Career year in XBHs and plays a solid 2B. Tyler Freeman and Andres Gimenez are ready post trade.

Return won't be huge but go get an arm or an OF.

Mariners make the most sense. I know there are rumors about their love for JRam but that's not happening. Consolation is Cesar Hernandez for cheap. Maybe Kaden Polkovich or DeLoach

I think Dodgers are going to say FU to the Padres and get both Turner and Max this week.

Andrew Chafin to the A's is close to done

Greg Deichmann, 26 year old AAA OF and another player supposedly heading to the Cubs.

Chafin would have been a great Athletic back in the 70's with his hair and stache
