City wide garage sale tomorrow 20 minutes away. I think I may forgo the other garage sales in my area and hit up this one instead. Thought about taking a break this weekend and get caught up on posting, but the thrill of the hunt is too much to pass up.

Yes I would do a city wide for sure.

Had a strange request on my brother typewriter sent me an offer for $70 countered for $80 and the person said $80 was fine if I used their prepaid shipping label. Obviously I declined because don’t you lose your protection if you don’t purchase a label through eBay/USPS/FedEx/PirateShip? I’m not letting a person send me their prepaid label because they could claim not delivered

There is an old scam for that. Its not really about protection, but sometimes they use stolen accounts for shipping. I cannot remember how the old scam went but I would not do it either.

It just depends. I sometime avoid big ones and focus on the areas away from those sales there is less competition. It really depends on the community though.

Today was a good Retail Arbitrage day and vintage clothing day for me. Picked up a jacket from the 1950s that comps are in the 75 to 80 range and a paid of swim trunks from the 1960s that could go for a couple of hundred there are some plain ones friom the era going for 120 to 130.00 this one is very decorative and unique could draw a nice price.

I have never tried them but I have hit a few of the Wal-Mart hidden clearances. I am also in good with one of the managers at one of the local Wal_marts so when they are marking down things if they have multiples of something I am interested in I will talk to the them and can usually get it lowered even more if I agree to take them all.

There were no gamecube games the N64 games were mostly Mario titles so and there were 9 of them so we each took 2 Marios and split the rest. The rest of the games were common Xbox and DS games and we just split them up.

Us three tend to look out for each other at these sales and will put others on items if one is going to pass. SO it was kind of a mutual thing. We had decided if there was a huge game we would just sell it and split the profits.
Finally got to listing the Gamecube I had not even opened it up yet. I opened it and there was a copy of Super Mario Strikers in the player. Nothing like finding an extra 60 dollars.

That is great. Nice little cherry on top.

Yeah I thought I’ve seen stuff on wal mart hidden clearance, is it actually hidden, as I’m just randomly throughout the store or is it something different?

You can get good tools from time to time. I've sold plenty of electric power tools that way. Very hit or miss though. I would not go out of my way to do it.

I was just going to do it on my thrifting day, it’s right along the way. Didn’t not power tools, was hoping for scenarios of $30-$40 items for less than $10 that ship lite and move fast. I’ll give it a shot.

Great day thrifting, type a day I really can’t imagine at yard sales. Yard sales don’t do it for me, just don’t like driving all around hoping people have good stuff and aren’t referencing eBay prices.

Big find was a baby lock sewing machine for $160, should be able to get around $700 for it. Picked up some board games and other good items. Found a small tub of tiny vintage Tyco LEGO space imitations, looked inside, had a bunch of LEGO space mini figures and blocks. Should get around $50ish for the space minifigures.

Honestly, you're really missing out. I'd rather spend 4 hours at garage sales than 4 hours inside a thrift store. Yes, you'll run into some dud garage sales and some you may drive to and look around without getting out of your car and drive by, but the prices! The prices are something that can't be matched at thrift stores. My eBay numbers go up during garage sale season.

I'm not a big time player on eBay and average around 200 listings, but during garage sale season I can get up to over 300 listings and my profit is stellar. I picked up a Walter Payton jersey today for $1 and quite a few video games for $2 a piece that will net me a nice return for $2 a piece as well. Maybe it's just in my area, but you'll never find those prices at a thrift store.

I’m at 400-500 listings with just thrift stores and buys off Craigslist, which can be a couple items or large collections. I just find myself not caring for garage sales. I only get about one good day to thrift, truly about one day, I would rather spend it hitting 4 to 5 thrift stores than hitting any garage sales. I just feel there are so many people in my area that are flipping or collecting that you have to be at the right garage sale early or you won’t find much. However with saying that I do have a wide range of knowledge on what sells and what I can sell. I just find thrift stores mare enjoyable, and that’s an important part of it, do what you love.

I am the same way during our few weeks of no sales I am either doing Arbitrage or working on the death piles. I have almost gotten to where I cannot even stand thrift stores. Like this morning I bought 5 Big Pony RL polos for 2.00 each. Those would have cost 7.99 in the thrifts.

I mainly use FBMP just to find garage sales in the area the coming week along with some websites.

I set the delivery method to Pickup Only, because people who offer shipping usually compare to ebay. Then I just browse by category. For some reason FB doesnt let me sort by newly listed when browsing by category.. only when using the search bar. And the FBMP search function sucks. Then you just gotta have some luck.

I have found some great scores just within the past week.. just picked up about 95 PS2 games for $200

The auctioneer asks the runner what kind of music it was and the runner says "Mostly rap", to which the auctioneer replies "I think you forgot the C at the beginning of that word".

Needless to say I got the album for next to nothing. Ended up being close to 200 hardcore/gangsta rap CDs from the early to mid 90s. There was some Pac, Biggie, Snoop stuff but more importantly to me there were a lot of more obscure stuff like lesser known rappers from No Limit and a few independent types. I've made about $400 so far, and have about half the discs left to sell.
I pretty much did this today.. Went to an auction with a bunch of older buyers there was a table of cassettes and CDs and a few NEW in Box Computer games. There were about 300 Each of the Cassettes and CDs. And about 600 Magazines. The mags were all 80s and 90s music magazines with most of the posters there was also a huge run of Spin and Rolling Stones from the same era. Talking Creem, Rip, Circus, Metal Edge and a few others. Among the PC games were most of the old Wing Commander games. And the music media was mostly Death Metal and obscure alternative. Paid about 25 total for the whole lot of it. Final numbers should be well into the thousands.

Sounds like your thrift store pricing is the same as mine. $6.99 on all off brand clothing, $8.99 on all UA, Nike, Adidas, etc.... If it's not a half off Saturday during the summer months, I don't even bother. If I'm in a pinch and just have the urge to go thrifting, I'll hit up a Goodwill and hope for the best as there are times where they miss-price items or they just don't know what they have and you hit a nice payday even with their ridiculous pricing.

Picked up an ICP hoodie for $7 and turned around and sold it for $100 in less than a week not too long ago. Sometimes they're on it and other times you wonder who they have in the back pricing this stuff.

I'm 100% with you on the yard sales man. I will go to a couple church sales during the year because it is a lot more stuff at one place. But I don't like waking and showing up to yard sales super early, battling with other resellers etc. Thrift stores around me are usually fairly priced and because I'm still doing clothing I can still find plenty of it. Yard sales will just never do it for me.

The thing I enjoy about yard sales, besides the thrill of the hunt, is just talking to people. I am by no means a full time reseller, I just do it for fun so maximizing my time for profits isn't a big focus for me. As someone mentioned above, the prices can be crazy low at yard sales so that definitely helps.

Also, you will get random dog encounters at yard sales. My daughter used to go with me and 90% of her reason for going was the chance at getting to pet a dog.

Check your local Wal-Mart stores! They are clearing out their remaining 3DS games and most are marked down to $9.88. I found a bunch of Mario Kart 7, Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario World 3D Land, and Pokemon Moon yesterday. Might have to get them to price match online if they haven't marked down in store yet.

I thought I'd weigh in on the thrift store vs. garage sale discussion.

I get well over 90% of my stuff at garage / yard / estate sales. Around here, there is just no comparison in price. The stuff at garage sales is just so much cheaper. And not just that. I think the flippers / resellers have ruined the Thrift stores here. Even if it weren't for the prices, I rarely find anything worth selling at thrift stores. As a case in point, cast iron pans were $5 - $7 at thrift stores a year ago. With so many people reselling, the prices have gradually gone up and up in the past year. Now, the local Goodwill has garbage cast iron priced at $20 - $25. Stupid.

Everything across the board at local thrift stores is ridiculous. Hats are $8. Athletic shirts are $15. Any type of jersey, not matter how beat up, is an automatic $25.

I love the dog encounters too haha! Sometimes if it totally looks like crap but they have a dog I still stop so I can pet it. My mom and I call them DILP (dogs I would like to pet). I love garage sales the most I get so excited for them. You never know what you are going to find and you can be out for 11 hours in a day and not get to them all. And prices are so much cheaper at yard sales so that means higher profit margins. Rock Revival and Miss Me Jeans at goodwill I find for $20, garage sales I find for $5 or less. Plus garage sales=warmer weather
