I think PSA are going to use these next couple of months not only to catch up but to also run a Human vs A.I grading experiment. They'll have 1000 cards graded by humans and then have the same 1000 cards graded via A.I tech and see how much of a difference there really is and based on those results they create a threshold or margin of error where they would then put any card that goes over the margin of error to the side for regrading and streamline the rest of the subs idk just thinking out loud lol But A.I Grading is inevitable especially when these grading companies get bought out and the new owners just want faster more efficient production

The way I figure it, HGA will be fine. They limit submissions so they do not get overloaded already. PSA announcement changes nothing for them.

SGC is ready for the flood. Remember when PSA closed up last time and SGC said "Send us your cards." Well they got the cards and as a result, moved to a larger facility, hired more staff, and eliminated group subs. My thoughts are, they eliminate group subs again but are able to handle the traffic. Slower but still able to handle it.

CSG is my choice of grader and unfortunately, they are in trouble. They are just starting and have not yet seen what is about to happen. They are, like everyone else, in a hiring frenzy and do not have a lot of data to be able to tell when enough is enough. They are about to get flooded.

Figures because I switched to SGC just before they got flooded, now I'm with CSG and can tell already what is about to happen when BK Prizm and BB Bowman releases within the next month.

PSA is smart though. The halt doesn't affect their bottom line because they've got a backlog for 8 months to be able to use to pay the bills. They knock that backlog down while flooding the other graders with cards. People get upset with all the other grading companies right about the time PSA opens back up and has little backlog.

It's already effected my comic grading. Orders used to be checked in and received in 2-3 days, now it's taking 4-5 weeks for comics.

Topps will have their own AI and make PSA’s unnecessary.

You will need to add a few more zeroes to each batch to make the results trustworthy.

Can someone explain this with more context? - In the e-mail from PSA to all users: "I’ll try to further illustrate what has happened. The sheer volume of orders that PSA received in early March has fundamentally changed our ability to service the hobby. The reality is that we recently received more cards in three days than we did during the previous three months. Even after the surge, submissions continue at never-before-seen levels."

So randomly in March they got as much submissions in 3 days than in the 3 months before that? How is that even possible & what was so special about these 3 days - Was it like a couple bulk submitters who submitted hundreds of thousands of cards? Just hard to believe.

On the news - It seems like they had no choice, so it's fine with me. I don't think it will affect much other than give them time to sort out their issues so they'll be ready for the increased orders in a couple months.

I just hope they don't raise prices again; that would be unnecessary I think. Just become more efficient at it & figure that part out.

There were rumors going around social media (that ended up being accurate) of an incoming price hike. Because of this, people submitted everything they could to try and beat the price hike. This caused the massive spike in submissions received by PSA.

CSG has some idea what they're getting into - they've already become #2 on the Pokemon side of things and gotten slammed. Now, does that mean they can do anything about it? ...who knows.

I would bet they just only introduce express and regular for the first couple of months back "open". The HGA queue is hell

SGC will not be able to handle anything. Turnaround times are what they are right now because demand is as close to zero as it gets.

Prizm football came out the first week of December. There’s 35 SGC slabs available on eBay. Brady alone has 32 PSA slabs listed, despite nothing submitted below Regular returning in that time.

Does this make current PSA 10s more valuable?

The flood gate is temp closed so it may be some residual prices spikes.

The market is practically begging for a legitimate company to grade and encapsulate sneakers, someone should call Jeff Wilson and start one up to take some of the heat off of PSA.

What's remaining will be spread across 3-4 companies.

HGA can take as much market share as they want to right now based on how quickly they can scale up. I don't know if they can do that, but the opportunity is certainly there for these companies.... and if you take something away from people for a good period of time, habits will change.
You think another company has the potential to scale up with 0.01 seconds notice? Before they could even get people trained PSA will be fine. PSA will come back with even more graders trained, space nearly double what they have now......... This is going to be a one horse race until secondary market sales have credibility with other companies..... and that gap has done nothing but widened every year for the last 1,2,3,4,5, etc years

If PSA has been falling behind for 2-3 years now with a pretty good pulse on the market........... there is no way another company can keep up with the volume influxes now

The only way another company gets into the running; if they get into a position to absorb volume and get orders out faster than psa.. while having attractive cases..... being priced less than psa....... and are consistent with the actual grading. It's an insurmountable task when you consider just how far out and ahead PSA is right now. They made the decision they made right now because they know they could with zero risk.

It's only a matter of time till other grading companies get back logged. Itll never end. As long as people keep submitting new release products and make money from the grade, itll never end. Companies should charge $100 a card to grade all this new stuff. I'd guarantee that would slow ultra modern subs.

That card is going to be worth 1500-2000. You send that thing to PSA Super Express no question.

Spending $300.

I seriously hope that, come July, PSA just bumps Ultra-Modern to its own category and at a set 10x rate as it was before Covid. Leave the other prices where they are (or even come down in price to encourage subs of other items).

Something like UM can only go value @ $100 per OR 2 day service or greater. Those are the options. UM was 50% of the backlog. If I bump the price 10x and lose 90% of that stuff, I break even on revenue and lose 45% of my volume to better meet demand. Anything less than 90% loss in volume and I’ve just made more money on the year.

My question is - what will PSA's pricing look like when they return? There's a general sentiment that it will increase to avoid this from happening again, although there is a second mechanism to thwart that; PSA needs to scale. And PSA has to scale anyways to address the backlog - closing the incoming submission sector can marginally increase their pace, but that's it - in order to speed up significantly and address the backlog, they need to increase in size. I don't know, it's tough, I suspect a price increase will come, but how significant I'm unsure. Beyond that, what happens to quarterly specials? Are they wiped out? What about vintage? It isn't and never will be the cause of a backlog issue. Just some thoughts.

I'm hoping the opposite, that they come back to reasonable bulk/value pricing
