Guys, please stop focusing on how it was packaged. it doesn't make a difference at this point.

All we can do now is try to get the message out there and keep an eye out on the market to see if anything ever pops up. I love this community and appreciate all of your help. Fingers crossed I am one day reunited with these.

Ha - yes, yes they were/are. Here’s hoping I get to see them in person some day.

While I agree that theft is the most likely scenario, there's a chance the package was ripped open by a machine and the contents spilled out. Assuming there was no address information on the flate rate box inside, the contents will end up being sold at government auction:

https://www.govdeals.com/index.cfm?f...ew&agency=4703

I personally know of at least two situations where cards went missing in the mail only to eventually show up on that site 6 months later. In both cases the cards were returned to their rightful owner.

This is just another example of why i don't put insurance on any of my packages. Insurance just puts huge targets on it for thieves.

Did you have an address on the box inside as well? When I ship high dollar cards, Ill have two or three layers and each layer is addressed in case the outer shell is damaged in transit. Just an idea for the future.

But when there’s a rip, doesn’t the PO/mail carrier place the envelope in a clear “We Care” bag?

Yeah. I was surprised no we care bag as well. I have lots of valuable things in my office though and had about 20 packages waiting for me in my office when I got back from my trip. This was the only package damaged and nothing else missing. Plus the cameras in the office. I know it looks obvious in the pic, but it wasn’t super obvious when I just looked at the package that it was ripped open. Just looked flat, like someone sent a document. Seems odd someone would open one package grab what’s in it (sealed) and leave the plainly visible stuff in my office untouched. Had to happen in transit imo. Still going to have security review the tapes tomorrow.

Sorry to hear this happened to you.

I imagine these meant a great deal to you if you went thru the troubling of getting the patches and having customs done.

This has got to be killing Tanner. I know he puts his heart and soul into this kind of stuff and it is very important to him. Just look at his Canseco customs.

This 'hobby' is getting more frustrating by the day. But I refuse to allow the scammers and crooks to push me away from something I enjoy doing so much.

I hope this somehow works out for you guys, I really do.

I'm not sure shipping a high value package without insurance is good advice. I had some stuff come up missing a few years back and was very glad I had the insurance on it.

I also shipped a 10k Babe Ruth card years ago and made sure it was sent Registered mail. (they treat that stuff like it's the nuclear codes, has to be signed for by every person that touches the packages along the way). I know this because I used to work at the post office back in the day and that was the most secure way to ship valuables. Yes you pay for the peace of mind and it is worth it.

My first reaction was to consider the cleaning crew at the office, not sure if that could be an issue, but have found on multiple occasions where that has become a problem. (Friends dad had a janitorial service and I was shocked what people could get away with where there was no video to record them) Five finger discount is a common practice for minimum wage employees who can get away with it.

I would also be checking every local card shop, pawn shop, craigslist, offer up, letgo, and even facebook marketplace. If they were stolen then chances are whoever took them doesn't want them but just wants to dump them for a quick buck.

Wow, Mike - very sorry to hear about this. Sucks that they are so special and unique and not just something you can order again on eBay.

I know it’s a PITA, but hopefully you can still do something similar again..? Such a cool and unique idea that I would hate for this not to happen for you now.

With all the horror stories about not getting insurance paid, or only paid for a much lesser amount, I’d still say shipping something that says “steal me” is not a good idea. The only exception would be if it goes registered mail like you mentioned.

I’d be better if the PO would just have the insurance info tied to the barcode rather than announce it on the package itself.

I just use Fedex for any high value sales I ship. They have cameras covering everywhere the packages go, and employees are searched when leaving the big shipping centers, so I've never had any problems. The company I work for ships about $500,000 worth of high end merchandise through them a year and we have never had anything stolen, and only a couple packages have been lost but the insurance claim was very easy. I never ship out anything over $500 using the post office, I hear too many horror stories.

Default sorry too

Sorry to hear about this...happened to me once. Insurance and BIG ebay on envelope sure says steal me to a thief! I sued to send presents to my goddaughter in Jamaica...always thinking thieves as their mail was very unsafe years ago...always make the package look like boring stuff...usually wrote photos inside so no one would care. Just food for thought...good luck!
