Default STOLEN - Mike Trout Custom Patch cards

Hey all -

You might have seen Tanner's post about some custom Mike Trout patch cards that he made... well, they were for me and unfortunately the package was ripped open during shipment and the cards were stolen before they reached me. All I got was an empty parcel.

These are obviously easy to spot, so I'm hoping you can all keep your eyes open and see if they pop up on your radar.

I've filed a claim with USPS (not expecting a good result) and don't really know what else to do. If anyone has any insight on what else I can do, please let me know.

These were the cards:

This is terrible news. Thankfully as you pointed out the cards are very unique. Will absolutely keep my eyes peeled.

May be good to start creating some ebay saved searches that may capture these cards

I'm sorry to hear this. I'll keep an eye out. What the hell are the odds that out of all packages, this one gets ripped open?

Was it shipped with a ton of insurance? Maybe the more protection we give to cards the more likely a shady mail worker opens the package?

Can you post a picture of the package? Did they rip and reseal where it's super obvious?

Have you checked the pawn shops, craigslist, swapmeets?

I had it shipped to my office as I was on a 'Baby Moon' with my wife when it would arrive. Super secure, placed in my office. I didn't even really notice the rip as it was face up on my desk, but once I picked it up it was super obvious. Torn open on the side all across the back. Package completely empty. Weighed nothing but the bubble mailer.

Not enough insurance to even cover the cost of the patches unfortunately...but still high enough that it would be tempting for someone. I'm based in LA - so would take a while to check all the possible sales spots. I did to a craigslist search and got nothing.

I'm sure it was packaged securely inside the bubble mailer. Tanner does a lot of amazing custom card work for people, so I'm sure it was well packaged.

Agree. Think these have to be sent in a box with certified mail.

At least cards will never be able to surface since so unique but doesn’t hurt the pain now.

Yeah, doesn't ease the pain at all. And I'd rather point fingers at the person that actually stole the cards. They are the person to blame here.

How does a mailman not notice that? Or anyone who would put that on the desk. It looks obvious.

Agreed. I have no idea. You'd think USPS would have flagged it and tagged it, like I've seen before on other open packages, but nothing. I have 100% confidence it didn't happen at my office, as we have cameras everywhere, but I'm still going to ask security to look into it tomorrow. At the very least, we might have video evidence that shows it was delivered opened... but unlikely since mail usually comes in a big delivery.

Each card was in a thick holder, and both were inside a priority box, which was then placed in the bubble mailer. Then if I recall correctly, the bubble mailer was then taped at the place where it seals for extra safety.

Being that it was shipped to your office is there an outside chance that it could have been anyone other than someone that works for the post office?

It was taped at the seal like you said. It was torn open from the bottom. Again, I don't think this is a conversation about how it was shipped. The person that stole the contents is the one to blame.

Having security looks at the tapes tomorrow, but it was inside my office which is locked each night and cameras in the hallway. Also, it's the only thing missing. I had other packages, all contents were fine. And in all the years I've worked here, I've never, ever had an issue. I have 100% confidence that this happened during transit.

Could it be someone at your job? Do they know of the hobby and how pricey cards are?

Wait this was put into a box? Meaning someone opened the box and slit the mailer?

Edit: sorry box was in bubble mailer. Wouldn’t be surprised if machine cut it.

So you put the card in the box, then the box in the bubble mailer? Why didn't you just ship the original box?

I wanted to give the box a little extra protection - I do this many times, because a small flat rate box is just so ... small.

I've only had one package arrived w/ missing contents and it had a $33.00 shipping label on it, someone working there knew something good was inside.
