Definitely a strongly disheartening day for us O's fans. I guess you can only pray that some of these guys Duquette got will work out in 2-3 years. Not sure what to do with any of my Manny and Schoop cards, would feel bad selling them after all the good memories those two guys brought us over the years.

His range is diminished in CF now, but I think its likely he would be at least an average defender in RF still. I was hoping they'd re-sign him to a 2 year deal or something. He's not going to cost a hell of a lot, he can offer some team leadership on a rebuilding club, and would at least give the fans one familiar face on the team. Basically the only people left are Bundy, Davis (.........lol), Mancini, Joseph, and Givens as far as recognizable players. That's why I dunno if I'm even going to watch anymore Orioles baseball this season. I don't like or care about just about every player left on the team. They are all no-names. |

I can only imagine what a talented GM could have done with all of the Orioles trade pieces. I'm glad to see the Orioles blowing it all up and acquiring quantity in prospects, which is what they needed. I just don't know if they got any talent in there.
It worked for the Cubs. It worked for the Astros. It's still a process for the White Sox. O's fans should be cautiously optimistic that it will work for them. As for me I've always been a Red Sox fan who lives in Baltimore but I did root for the O's back in the day. They are my hometown team so I would like to see them competitive. I don't mind seeing a bunch of no names take the field. Find a few of those no names, with heart, and you've got yourself a team. |

Count me in the minority, but I really like what the Orioles have done here this past month. Other than Yusniel Diaz they may not have gotten any top prospects, but they added a bunch of young players and went from one of the worst minor league systems to about middle of the pack. Plus I'm really excited about Dillon Tate and Luis Ortiz. Something else to take away from this is the international slot money that they added in a couple of these trades, and more importantly they're finally showing some interest in signing international players. Apparently, they are going to pursue top Cuban prospect Victor Victor Mesa should he become available. I know it's tough to see players leaving that have contributed so much to this organization, but along with the prospects they received they could also benefit by winning less games. If they end up with the top pick in next year's draft, that could end up being top prospect Bobby Witt Jr. who would be a nice replacement for Manny at shortstop. There will obviously be some growing pains, but I'm pretty excited about the next few years.

Pretty good debut game for Cedric Mullins!
Currently the bottom of the 5th and he's 2-2 with a double, a single, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, and 1 walk. He was also 21-22 in the minors with stolen bases, and should be a plus defender. The O's sorely need improved defense, and the speed won't hurt either. His MiLB career triple slash is .274/.330/.448 so if he can end up doing something close to that in the majors, add in 20~ stolen bases and good defense, and he could end up being a pretty decent center fielder. Of course maybe he could end up as a 4th OF type too. But hoping he can at least end up somewhere around his minor league levels of production. Sad to see Adam Jones go after this season. He's had a fantastic 11 seasons for the team, although he has started to show his age the last few years. Overall though, it's very possible he is the best centerfielder to play for the Orioles. He was a huge part in this franchise turning it around, and was in a lot of ways the face of the 2012-2016 Orioles (as well as these last two not great seasons). I think maybe he could have had some value for the team on a 2 year deal or something. It would provide a mentor to a lot of the young players, and also give fans one more familiar face to cheer for. But they don't usually ask my opinion. No matter what happens, Birdland will always love AJ10!!!! #Cap10

Highly doubting they'll just eat the $90+M owed to Davis. If they didn't buy out Ubaldo they're definitely not buying out Davis.

Oh, I know they aren't going to eat it. And obviously he is untradeable. But in my opinion, if you are rebuilding you just take the hit and release him. Far easier said than done.

He supposedly worked AF this past offseason and we see where that got him. He's done. He's never getting it back. Not that he had it in the first place. All he ever did was hit HR's, which is fine, especially for a 1B but he's a liability everywhere else. I would have let him walk years ago.

Have a quick fanfest question. I will be attending this years fanfest with my nephew and the question I have is. I will be about two months post knee surgery do they provide adequate seating I have attended two years ago but never took notice. I don't expect any big names but would you guys suggest autographed baseballs or a decent bat or two to sign for us.

Looks like we finally have our President of Baseball Operations
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/...rioles-gm.html Really good hire, I think. I was seriously worried the O's would screw this hiring process up, and subsequently screw up the rebuild. Happy they are going with a young up-and-coming guy with an analytics/talent evaluation background. If Sig Mejdal comes as well, all the better. I think it also says something about the level of decision making authority the new President will have, considering an up and coming GM candidate with that background actually wanted the job. |

Spot on, Orange October, for explaining the concerns. By the way, the Angelos boys are doing better than their dumb father. |

Yeah, I think those 14 straight losing seasons still loom large in the minds of many O's fans. I'm definitely more confidant about them moving in the right direction now than I was a week ago. |

Glad Elias officially got named and glad he has full autonomy on baseball decisions. Hopefuly this is the start of something good for the O's. Interested to hear his initial thoughts at his introductory press conference on Monday.

Lifetime fan. That 97 team looked like it was going to challenge the Yankees for years. Angelos dismantles the team and they have never been the same since and it cleared the way for the Yankees. I sometimes think that Angelos is in the pocket of the Steinbrenners.
The Orioles will never be great again until Angelos sells the team. |

Peter Angelos is thankfully no longer involved in the actual running of the team due to health/advanced age, as of maybe 12 months ago. We'll see, and I don't blame people for not holding their breath, but I think things will be different with the sons (John and Lou Angelos) running the team and Mike Elias as the Executive VP/GM. At least I hope so. I am encouraged by the moves so far. If they hired Ned Coletti, I'd be much less optimistic. Last edited by Orange October; 12-06-2018 at 12:22 PM. |
