If history is an indicator and my memory serves me correct, the picture in Series 2 will be the same as the one from the Opening Day set.

I have the OD card. I bought just one rack pack for the hell of it one day, and forgot all about Ohtani until it was one of the last cards in the pack haha I was pretty cool with that.
But that pic would be better than a photoshop. Quote:

I think there is a good possibility in series 2 they will have a real photo. I hope so at least.

There is no chance, in my opinion, that the Opening Day image will be re-used in Series 2. Topps can make some dumb moves on re-using images, but a decision like that would cut in to sales of S2.
A vast majority of images used in Opening Day re-appear in S2 in previous years. This year, most, but not all of the RC cards have unique images in Opening Day; several more than last year, when Judge had a unique card in Opening Day. There is a chance the Team Set image will be re-used in Series 2, but I don't think it is a very high chance. Judge had a unique RC in the Team Set last year; that team set is still for sale for $9 as I type. I think it is probably pretty easy for Topps to produce Team Sets to match demand; they are probably all produced in team-specific quantities to start with. The most common change to a Team Set card vs. an S1/S2 card is when the S1/S2 card is a horizontal card, which are produced on their own sheet during production of S1/S2. But not always; horizontal cards do exist in the Team Sets though are not common. Edit: Judge was unique in Team Set vs. S1 though not vs. Opening Day, as TBP pointed out. If you buy into the vision for the Living Set (ie you think its potential will be realized) then I think that card will be the most valuable (by far). They’re very condition sensitive. They’re beautiful. They’re limited. They’re RCs etc

I guess my goal isn't so much to flip as I've just really gravitated to how cool it is that he's doing something the game hasn't seen forever. I bought a team set and living set card today. I've packed and sold a handful of OD cards but don't like that it's a podium shot. Maybe I'll grab one of those too depending on what Series 2 and Update show us.

I love the LS look and design, but here is my concern long term...
Most of us saw what happened with TN and so many, many flippers purchased hundreds of copies. There are over 20k of these cards and I suspect most are being held. I think long term there are just too many copies. I cannot be the only person seeing 20k+ as the very opposite of a rare release. I would be glad to be wrong and if he keeps up his current performance, 20k is definitely not enough. Realistically though I think 20k is too many and the card is probably peaking. Again, just my instinct on the matter.

One thing is for sure, by the end of the year there will be a bazillion different RC issues.
I think sticking to products with a pedigree (flagship, heritage, chrome) is wise as products that come in and out of existence make less of an impression as a must-have RC... Living set might do well if the concept catches on, it’s an early card # and perhaps its following grows over the years? You always gotta assume that Topps will find a way to screw up most things tho :/

I think the biggest underlying point in all of this, is that if Shotime really does fulfill the prophecy this year...almost any one of his base cards will be viewed as cheap by today's standards.
Think Judgemania, except way more unique, with the added bonus of the japanese/asian collector base. I'd estimate a little over half of my sales up til this point have been Japanese collectors (based off their last names, noracist). I'm partial to the Heritage SP (though it's a bit spendy), but the LL is a very visually appealing card. Of course his 1st BC in an angels uni will probably command wild prices out the gate. |

Any thoughts on the Topps team release mini? I love the mini cards but I know some people hate them just as I hate oversized cards.

the cards are regular sized. "Mini" means small set in this case

If you flip now I think you can do alright since there is not that many Ohtani on the market. This time next year they should be plentiful as there will be sooo many Ohtani on the market by that time. This card is not SP by any stretch. I would also be glad to be wrong, but just being realistic. |
