Au contraire. Good move.

Quiet deadline day, usually how it turns out.

Excited that the Thunder got Russ to legit rotation players. Raptors look like 2nd best team in East. Celtics remain dangerous as FA/trade players going into the summer...

Bring on Boogie/AD tonight!

Deron officially waived.

13.1 points and 6.9 assists and waived.. man. Tough life in the NBA. Seems like a perfect fir for Cleveland. If they can land Bogut and DWill.... that's just unfair.

Williams is going to Cleveland. That's a lock.

Multiple teams interested in Deron Williams tell ESPN they believe Williams has already decided to join Cleveland upon clearing waivers

Even though Payne sucks, this leaves OKC without a backup PG. only other one on their roster is Christon, who never plays.

But he has to clear waivers first....

A team can claim him whether he likes that or not.

Edit: Started wrtigin this while you posted your last reply.

See Utah and Denver. Those are the only two hurdles.

Clearly. Everyone knows this. Everyone expects him to clear.

Well, maybe "everyone" is right...

But I'd add this. The Jazz are below the floor - not just the cap. Signing Deron is literally close to FREE for them.

It would cost them a net of $600k for the rest of the season.

Given The George Hill injury stuff.... this might not be a slam dunk for your Cavs.

All I'm saying is everyone expects him to clear and when he does he is a Cleveland lock.

If he doesn't clear? Then the rules are the rules

Sorry... did the math wrong....

If Jazz were to claim Deron Williams, they’d owe him $2.4M and avoid $4.2M in floor payments. That's $1.8M savings.

Meaning that signing Deron actually gives the team $1.8m.

People calling this a "formality" don't understand the landscape. Some guys clearing waivers are a formality, but if I'm Denver or Utah, it makes almost too much sense to claim him.

I know its a different regime, but would the Jazz really want Williams back? He was kinda a douche there.

And also, he really isnt that great. He fits fine on the Cavs but would the Jazz really wanna bring in his nonsense just to F with a team they wont even see in the playoffs?

It's entirely possible that happens. If it does it does. There are also cheaper ways to get to the floor.

It will be interesting

I don't know. Good questions. Absolutely.

But I mean, he's a 13 and 7 guy this year... and if Hill gets hurt - which he has been half of this season - it gives us someone more dependable - when healthy - then Exum is at this point.

The real question is do you sign a guy, that clearly doesn't want to be there, just because you can? You aren't winning anything regardless.

I get the dollars but you can handle that any number of ways

It's do you bring in a 32 year old veteran, that didn't necessarily leave on good terms before, just because.

I'd still be floored if he didn't clear... but we shall see

That's the only real question. Do you want to sign a guy that doesn't want to play for your team? I wouldn't. I fully expect him to clear waivers and sign with the Cavs.

If this was the Celtics or Raptors I would think they might screw with the Cavs....but a Western conference team?

We need a guy like deron. May make the difference between winning and losing a series. And again, signing him actually SAVES he jazz nearly $2m by getting them to the floor.

There are easy ways around that though as opposed to signing an old guy that wants to go somewhere else... if you believe reports obviously

Unless he actually helps you win something meaningful? Spend your money elsewhere. Williams won't be the only guy available.

Give me an example of somebody else who helps us and gets us to the floor for cheaper.

I'd also say that in the past few days a few local guys have mentioned that deron has spoken to them about wanting to "right the wrongs" that he made while here. I'm sure he'd rather have a chance at a ring, but given that he still lives here and his relationship with a lot of the local guys, I wouldn't be shocked if we were number 2.
