Seriously, don't most candidates beat themselves to death campaigning the last few weeks until the election.
Amazing how little we've seen or heard from her with the election so close.
Private fundraisers? Really?

Maybe it's just me, seems bizzarre.

I think she just doesn't have much to gain at this point. She is trusting the polls that say this will be a landslide. In a few weeks we will see if that is the right call.

Anyone else going to be serving as poll workers?

Related note: can we please get through this election without the usual "voter fraud / stuffed boxes / thrown away ballots / corruption" chain emails that get recycled every four years and can be debunked with 30 seconds of googling?

Seems unlikely, given... Trump.

Why would she? If she were smart, she wouldn't say another word until election. Trump speaking and tweeting every day is just helping her at this point.

Just goes to show how ugly this election is. You have one candidate who is so corrupt she shouldn't be allowed near the White House, and she's going to win over a guy who is seriously the most stupid presidential candidate of all time.

I guess the point would be that even if Trump won (not happening) he would have no chance of getting any significant piece of legislation through Congress, especially dramatic tax reforms. I don't even know why candidates throw those type of proposal out there.

It is astonishing how poorly Trump is polling at this point, especially in deep red states like Texas, Utah, ect. Way under performing both Romney & McCain. Only +5 in Texas!

There's a 36 page paper linked in this article if you use the table of contents you can skim through it.

Here's a study from Wayne University on how term limits have negatively impacted Michigan

Twelve-year study by Wayne State faculty shows term limits for Michigan legislators have negatively impacted state - Newsroom - Wayne State University

Also at the bottom of the original link there are two studies that show "nuanced effects"

Again there are good arguments to be made for them, I just think they are short sighted and aren't going to have the impact people think they will. Sorry for coming off condescending about the matter.
Interesting read, although I'd need to pull the actual articles as opposed to the news report. Michigan's term limits do seem pretty short. 2 terms each chamber does certainly hamper the ability to "learn the job."

That said, my idea behind term limits would be to have the "Senators" and Senior Reps mentor the new/Junior Reps. Term limits that I've aligned with would be 3 terms in the House (6 years) and 2 terms in the Senate (12 years). That's 1.5 times longer than Michigan, which I think would certainly give legislators more time to learn the job.

Ideally, it should create a path/hierarchy where you get elected, learn your role as a Junior Rep. With each subsequent term, you should increase your role as within the hierarchy. The Junior Reps should essentially follow around the most Senior Reps to learn the ropes. The middle term should be used for their major policy work. Their Senior term should be used to finish up their policy work, and used to mentor their Junior Reps.

Following reaching their term limit as a Rep, should they wish to continue their political career, they should move onto the Upper Chamber of the legislature. As a Senator, they would have the experience of knowing the ropes of the law process, and should be a much smoother transition. With 6 years as a Senator, they should certainly be able to work on greater/hallmark pieces of legislation.

Ultimately, 18 years on the job is more than enough. It would create a clear path and structure for "success." As it stands, there is no structure. It's get into office and stay as long as you can. Having a structure would also give the populace something other than voting records to judge their candidates upon.

I realize that my plan is idealistic and likely overestimates the capabilities and mental capacities of the voting populace (this presidential election should be a classic example of how dumb the voting populace can be...). That said, it's borne out my wish for something greater in our country. I understand the growing pains will be there, but I'd rather try to break the crappy cycle that we're currently immersed in than sit back and hope that it just suddenly turns around.

The TL;DR version is this:
I'm p!ssed that the system is clearly broken and I'd rather throw out some good legislators to get rid of the bad ones if it ultimately ends up scaring the incoming clowns into some action...

I just cant believe that in this great country we are stuck with one of these two idiots as our President. After thelast 8 years of a terrible President we are destined for 4 more that have the potential to be even worse. Its a real shame

This sums up my feeling on this election pretty well. All of these Wiki links emails, ambush videos, etc on Clinton aren't making much of a dent in the polls. It just confirms to most people that she is completely corrupt, but most don't care. If the Republican candidate was even remotely qualified or likeable, this race would look very different. It just feels like an election where you have a large part of the population just begging for somebody to take their vote. The most disappointing thing to me is this would have been a great year for a 3rd party candidate to really make some headway for the party. Probably wouldn't win, but they have to think long game with a few election cycles and getting senate/house seats. If a 3rd party can't get traction with these two candidates, when is it every going to happen?

You never really know a President's legacy until 15-20 years down the road. I suspect Obama's legacy will look pretty good when it is all said and done. Considering where the country was in 2008 compared to now is pretty staggering. He will be tied to the long term validity of Affordable Care Act for sure. The economy, while not awesome, is much better. Dow Jones has doubled, unemployment down, etc. He also passed the gay rights marriage bill and killed Bin Laden. Two big feathers in his cap, imo. This is coming from somebody who was pretty disappointed in him just a few years ago.

Read up on "false economy" and that will be Obama's legacy in 5-10 years. The $9,000,000,000,000 in extra debt was Obama using America's credit card to make things better now, but will come at a very high cost, very quickly in the future. The Fed has also kept the interest rate low for far too long that will also cause another small market meltdown when it finally rises. Add in the losses and failure that obamacare is already experiencing, this mess will be hard for anyone who is President in the next couple of terms to fix. Obama is a great speaker with a lot of personality and swag, but is terrible at actually running the country.
