I used to feel the same way about midcovers. However the jean grey cover they put out is great. Also love the asm 700 superior spiderman connecting cover. Think that set commands $400 in 9.8.

How so? There will no doubt be more of these than a store exclusive. The full piece isn't that great, IMO.

As for the rest, his asking price is much lower and they normally got picked up as soon as it is being put up for sale. There is a line of vultures --- Oops, I meant collectors ---- waiting to snatch up whatever.

You don't have to sell off your entire collection just to own ONE item. Set your goal of obtaining one -- this would means, you would have to go COLD TURKEY on the stuff you see and read about.

It is hard -- but, if you can ignore BO posts for six months or so, you will save up by NYCC '16! But then again, if you spec well in the 6-months period, you can get one OA also!
Sure he has:

This is really a simple dilemma. If you like it, buy it. If not, don't. Who cares if it is common or rare? That is really only significant for flipping. We are talking about a $15 investment for the set here ($11, I think, if you bought in Previews).

I like it. Of course, I limit my JSC stuff to Spider titles for the most part. Although I really like his art, I can pass on Danger Girl and Back to the Future and Batman and X-men. Helps me keep the budget in check Of course, I would jump on a TMNT cover!

I am on the other side of this track. I cant afford the rarer books, so I will go for everything else

I guess I am in the middle. I only buy the books I like. Rare or common.

My Stan Lee Exclusive Psylocke books showed up today and they look pretty damn cool in hand. My color one looks to be in great shape and the sketch has one minor spine crease. I was really freaked out thou when I opened the mail box and seen this!

Luckily thou they weren't effected.

They probably should have used a Do Not Mangle sticker on the package

My books arrive tomorrow. I have a color graded w/ Indy but grabbed a raw set as well..glad I did cause the sketch cover looks pretty nice in hand. I'm still not wild about the color variant, I'm not sure if Nei was the color artist but something looks odd about it..it reminds me of an animated character from a video game or movie.

Mine came in today as well. My regular Postalwoman wasn't working since it was shoved into the mailbox and not left at the door. Luckily, the set was in great shape!

I agree about the color version, it just looks off compared to her other work with campbell. It is like the upper half of the image has different color.

My set arrived..books/colors look better in person.. I think it was just that stock image was over saturated.

Both books look solid.. should be 9.8's ..but I'm lost when it comes to black covers and how CGC grades them. I have black covers with the slightest rub that came back 9.4 (grader notes say, breaks color) and then I have black covers filled with rub and are 9.8. ???

Overall happy they arrived safe and sound..I've had a string of bad luck these past few months with damaged packages.

I preferred the colored version. I bought 3 sets. 3 of the sketches are 9.8 candidates. 1 color is a 9.8 candidate. I shipped them off to CGC yesterday as soon as I got them. lol

I think Campbell is indeed too busy to do sketches as a general statement, and part of that for conventions is:

1) If there's 1,000 fans and only time to do 100 sketches, you get 100 happy fans but then you get 900 fans who complain. Many fans feel a self of entitlement when they go to the shows as well as put their name on a "list" to request a sketch but come home empty handed, so a lot of artists just eliminate that scenario completely by not sketching.

2) On top of that, a lot of artists don't go to conventions to "work" and just go head's down to draw, the very thing they do as their job at home. Some would rather to the simple things like selling prints, signing autographs and chatting with fans.

3) And then you have the resellers, who come with the "I'm your biggest fan" plea that turn around and resell the sketches, so it's harder to price the sketches that's affordable for fans yet discourages resellers. I know Neal Adams has probably mastered that pricing now, where a decade or two ago, he used to do free sketches and low priced commissions, but got jaded by the agenda of a few exploitive fans.

I thought at one time I heard it's customary for art collectors and art fans in Europe to have a different protocol than in the US where sketches were done complimentary and free, since the culture of profiteering flippers and greedy resellers hadn't emerged and the conventions were more sincerely fan based.

I'm not sure if that's changed 'tho, and maybe artists open up sketch/commission opportunities for fees, but do sketches internationally for fans where they don't in the US because the artists don't make appearances and the show organizers do pay (at minimum they usually fly in the artists and pay for lodging as well as provide exhibit space at the show) an expense and that could be part of the terms and agreement of an appearance (to engage with fans and provide sketch opportunities to attendees).

Not just pencil sketches either. Lucky folks. Probably well outside my budget anyway.
